Hi, Your main aim should be arriving at a good mastery of the subjects, no matter what sources you study.

However some hints follow that I hope can help you in allocating sufficient time to each book. Teaching Methodology Brown, H. D. (2000). Principles of language learning and teaching (4th ed.). London: Longman Group UK Limited. [*****] highly important. It should be studied line by line. Richards, J. C., & Rodgers, T. S. (2001). Approaches and methods in language teaching. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. [*****] very important. All chapters should be studied with more emphasis on parts 1 & 3. Larsen-Freeman, D. (1986). Techniques and principles in language teaching. Oxford: Oxford University Press. [***] this one can be used both as a beginning and as a review. It is basic and important. Celce-Murcia, Marianne (Ed).1991. Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language. Second Edition. New York: Newbury House. [*] you may just skip this one, depending on your time. The first chapter is a good review of teaching methodology. Chastain, Kenneth. 1988. Developing second language skills: Theory and practice. 3rd edition. San Diego, CA: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich.

[****] very important. Especially the 4 chapters on teaching language skills. The first few chapters are also crucial (human learning, brain function , ...). Linguistics Falk, J. S. Linguistics and language: A survey of basic concepts and implications. Michigan: Michigan State University Press. [****] Only chapters on phonetics and phonology. (you may not agree with me) Fromkin, V., & Rodman, R. (1988). An introduction to language. New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, Inc. [*****] both interesting and important. Yule, G. (1996). The study of language. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. [****] dont consider this as easy and unnecessary! It is basic and crucial. Farrokhpay, Mahmood. Linguisitcs. Tehran: SAMT.

This one can be skipped. Testing Farhady, H., Jafarpur, A., & Birjandi, P. (2000). Testing language skills: From theory to practice (8th ed.). Tehran: SAMT. [****************] the main source for testing. Line by Line! Heaton, J. B. (1988). Writing English language tests. London: Longman Group UK Limited. [***] can be used to perfect the previous one. Hughes, A. (2003). Testing for language teachers (2nd ed.). Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. Jafarpur, A. Testing. Payame Noor University.

These two can be ignored or just go through them for new information. Again I have to repeat that these are just suggestions. You may prefer and feel more comfortable with some books other than those listed above. The primary point must be gaining a good knowledge of the subject matters. Organized by: M. H. Azari (21th century poet & sculptor, the one who revolutionized linguistics!) "But.... A diligent aspirant to the title of MA champion will never restrict him/herself to a prescribed set of books." Good Luck
