(5 marks) ii) For a car to safely negotiate the curve at the speed in (i), calculate the banking angle required. (3 marks) iii) Recommend what happen to the car if goes around the curve at 25 m/s. (1 mark) iv) Determine the safe speed for traveling around the curve if the road surface is wet from a recent rain and the coefficient of static friction between the wet road and the rubber tires is 0.50. (2 marks) d) The angle through which a rotating wheel has turned in time t is given by 9 = 8.51 151 2 + 1.614, where 6 is in radians and t in seconds. i) Determine an expression for the instantaneous angular velocity, GO. (1.5 marks) ii) Determine an expression for the instantaneous angular acceleration, a. (1.5 marks) iii) Calculate angular velocity (w) and angular acceleration (a) when t = 3.0 s. (2 marks)

It is anchored to the sea bottom by a cable (Assume density of water as 1000 kg/m3 and g = 9.81 m/s2). Calculate: i) ii) The buoyant force on the chamber. (3 marks) The tension in the cable. (3 marks) b) If you open up the tap water every day in your house, you will observe that the stream of water from the tap becomes narrower as it falls to the sink. Using your knowledge in fluid dynamics, i) Briefly explain the phenomena. (2 marks) ii) State the equation involved. (1 mark) c) An open-tube mercury manometer is used to measure the pressure in an oxygen tank. When the atmospheric pressure is 1.04 bar, calculate the absolute pressure (in Pa) in the tank if the height of the mercury in the tube is i) 21.0 cm higher. (3 marks) ii) 5.2 cm lower. (2 marks) d) A Cessna private jet flies on a horizontal path without any different in height. There is a pressure difference of 500 Pa between the lower and upper surfaces of the wings. The area of each wing surfaces is about 100 m2. The air moves below the wings at a speed of 80.5 m/s. Calculate: i) The weight (in N) of the plane. (3 marks) (3 marks)

QUESTION 5 a) Define heat and specific heat. (3 marks) b) The principal virtue of Pyrex glass (a = 3 x 10~6 C"1) is that its coefficient of linear expansion is smaller than an ordinary glass (a = 9 x 10"6 C"1). From this fact, explain the superiority of Pyrex glass heat resistivity compared to ordinary glass from this property point of view. (3 marks) c) A 15 g of lead bullet is tested by firing into a fixed block of wood with mass of 1.05 kg. The block and the bullet absorb all the heat generated.
