Jessica Chambers
For Vice President Communications
Social Science Students Council

Hello Social Science Students Council!

Well hello there! My name is Jessica Chambers (please call me Jess!) and I am running to be your SSSC VP Communications for 2012-2013. I have been part of the SSSC for two years now currently I am the Political Science Representative. As a long term and enthusiastic member of this council, I have seen both the positive and negative aspects of how we operate and how we can better communicate with our constituents. This is why I hope, after looking through my platform, you will vote for me to be your VP Communications for next year!

Why am I running?
Thats obviously a very important question. I can answer it in a very simple way: because the SSSC is my family. After two years of being on this council I have met some of the greatest people and the entire experience has changed me as a person. That sounds really corny, but its true! Thus, I want to give back to council what council has given to me. <3

What experience do I have?

Social Science Students Council: Political Science Rep 2011-2012, Socializer Editor-in-Chief 2010-2011, and admirer from afar 2009-2012. I worked closely with Teresa Arnone as Editor-in-Chief to bring the Social News out of years of mismanagement. I also work closely with Stephen Yu in his Communications Committee and on the Socializer Committee/Yearbook Committee this year. Political Science Association, VP Communications 2011-2012. I revamped the website, Facebook, and twitter accounts to provide the most up to date information for the club. Being Political Science Rep for the SSSC and being VP Communications for the PSA helped established a close relationship between PSA and SSSC, something I wish to replicate for all department clubs. LAMP Peer Mentor 2011-2012: Working with 30 first year students in Social Science to help guide them through academic policy and involvement opportunities on campus. Ive learned a ton about first years and the best ways we can communicate to them. Floor President: Saugeen Maitland Hall Residence Council: liaise with the student council to inform floor about upcoming events in residence and on campus. There are involved students on every floor of every residence. Another great way we can communicate our events to first years. Some other awesome things: External Affairs Committee, USC Off to Western, Alumni Western Professional Cheerleader in high school (I am able to perform and speak in front of others. Obviously an important trait for communications!)
