When CHRISTUS St. Marys Clinic opened in August of 2011, it received an overwhelming response from families of Houstons East End neighborhood, helped by a feature story aired on KTMD-TV Telemundo Houston, which immediately sparked wave after wave of patients seeking affordable and easily accessible care. According to Sr. Rosanne Popp, clinic volunteers spent the next four days returning the more than 500 phone calls and answering peoples questions about the clinic.

St. Marys Clinic Off to a Fast & Furious Start

In its first three months of opening, Sr. Rosanne Popp, M.D. and staff provided vital healthcare to more than 1,300 patients. St. Marys is already operating at full capacity.
and therefore went without medical care and critical medications. CHRISTUS St. Marys Clinic professionals help patients manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension; provide general health checks; offer basic emergency care and refer patients in need of specialized care. There are no eligibility requirements for care.

Several common concerns were expressed from the callers and patients that made their way to St. Marys. Many hadnt had a check-up in years because they couldnt afford it. Most didnt have insurance or if they did the deductibles were too high

Rosannes vision of affordable healthcare being available to all underserved Houstonians is gradually coming to fruition. While serving residents in southeast Houston, CHRISTUS St. Marys is also serving as the hub of the Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative program, which leverages synergies among three vital CHRISTUS ministries - CHRISTUS St. Marys Clinic, CHRISTUS School Based Clinics, and the CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinic. Patients seen by the Mobile and School Based Clinics can be referred to St. Marys for further care, while conversely, patients initially treated at St. Marys can be monitored closer to their homes and schools by professionals of the Mobile and School Based Clinics. Together these three ministries will build on each others strengths for more comprehensive patient care and provide a model for care that can one day be utilized throughout Greater Houston.
