Properties of Real Numbers

Real numbers are used to measure the continuous values. A real number can be rational number or irrational number or it may be positive, negative or zero. It may be algebraic or transcendental. Properties of real numbers that are used in various expressions and equations as follows: Suppose a ,b,c,d are some real numbers. They show some real number properties such as: Commutative property of Addition: a + b = b + a. Example 2 + 4 = 4 + 2 Associative property of Addition:a +( b + c )= ( a + b ) + c. Example 3 + ( 5 + 6 ) = ( 3 + 5 ) + 6 Commutative property of multiplication: a * b = b * a. Example 2 * 4 = 4 * 2 Associative property of Multiplication: a * ( b * c ) = ( a * b ) * c.

Example: 3 * ( 5 * 6 ) = ( 3 * 5 ) * 6 Distributive property: a .(b + c) = a . b + a . c Example: 2.(3 + 4) = (2 . 3 ) + ( 2 . 4 ) Additive identity property: a + 0 = a Example: 3 + 0 = 3 Multiplicative identity property: a.1 = a Example: 2.1 = 2 Additive inverse property: a + (- a ) = 0 Example: 2 + (- 2) = 0 Multiplicative inverse property: a.(1/a) = 1 (it should be noted that a cannot be 0). Example: 2.(1 / 2 ) = 1 Zero property: a.0 = 0 Example: 4.0 = 0. This is all about properties of Real number. Commutative Properties of Real Numbers Commutative property is an important part of mathematics, which is used to solve the problems of algebra. In a proper definition, real numbers are those numbers that are not imaginary numbers. The real numbers did not have a name before Imaginary numbers, thats why they were known as a real numbers.

Here we specify the commutative properties of real numbers. Commutative properties usually contain two operations which are addition and multiplication. Examples are: a + b = b + a and ab = ba

In the above given example it shows the commutative property of real numbers by multiplication and addition. The commutative property states that altering the arrangement of two numbers that are either being added or multiplied, does make any modification in the final result. In the general sense, in any given equation you can change the arrangement of real numbers anywhere but final result does not get affected through this shift of numbers. Here are some examples through which we can easily describe the commutative property of addition and multiplication separately. Example1: Write the equivalent expression of given expression 4.6a +3.5b by using the commutative property. 4.6a + 3.5b =3.5b+4.6a Example2: Write the equivalent expression of given expression 2/3a * 4/5b by using the commutative property.

2/3a * 4/5b = 4/5b * 2/3a The commutative property or addition states that we can sum up numbers in any order but it does not affect the final result. In the same sense commutative property of multiplication is very similar. It says that we can multiply numbers in any arrangement without altering the concluding result. As per the above declaration of the concept this is satisfactory information, which helps in solving the problem of real numbers.
