Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for appointment to the following posts: FACULTY OF ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES a) Lecturer/Senior [UBD/FASS/001] Lecturer/Associate Professor in New Media

Applicants must have a PhD or an MA/MSc in Communication, New Media, or a closely related discipline. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in the production of new media. Applicants should have a good publication record and/or industry experience. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and post-graduate modules in new media, and engage in high quality research. b) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in English Literature (Drama & Theatre Studies) [UBD/FASS/002] Applicants must have a PhD in English Literature or in Drama and Theatre Studies from a recognised university, with tertiary teaching and practical theatre experience, and relevant publications in the field. Preference will be given to applicants who specialize in Theatre Production and one of the following areas: British and American theatre practices or Experimental theatre. Some knowledge in Film Studies is also welcome. The successful applicant will be expected to teach and develop undergraduate / postgraduate courses, develop research in their areas of expertise, and undertake administrative duties. c) Senior Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics (General and Applied Linguistics) [UBD/FASS/003] Applicants must have a PhD in general and/or applied linguistics from a recognised university, with extensive teaching and research experience in discourse analysis, semantics and pragmatics and language variation. Preference will be given to applicants who can contribute in terms of teaching and research across the various disciplines offered within the English Language & Linguistics programme. will be expected to be involved in teaching undergraduate/postgraduate programmes, graduate student supervision, research, consultancy and administration related duties. d) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Anthropology [UBD/FASS/004] Professor/Professor in Sociology-

Applicants should hold a PhD in either sociology or socio-cultural anthropology preferably with research experience in Southeast Asia (particularly in Borneo) and be willing to contribute to the development of a small, recently established programme. Specialization in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage: environment and society, urban sociology, sociology of Islam, kinship and gender, economy and society, and quantitative research methdology. Successful applicants will be expected to teach a range of undergraduate modules as well as participate in postgraduate supervision. e) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Sustainable Tourism [UBD/FASS/005]

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant subject and show evidence of active research in their field, including publications in quality international refereed journals. Preference will be given to applicants who can also contribute to other existing programmes within the faculty. The successful applicants will be required to develop the Tourism teaching programme within the faculty which should focus on sustainable tourism and be particularly relevant to the development of the industry within Southeast Asia. f) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Geography & Development (Sustainable Urban Development) [UBD/FASS/006] Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant subject and show evidence of active research in their field, including publications in quality international refereed journals. Preference will be given to applicants who can also contribute to other existing programmes within the faculty. The successful applicant will be required to conduct teaching in sustainable development, urban design and bio mimicry as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of sustainable development. g) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Geography & Development (Population Trends) [UBD/FASS/007] Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant subject and show evidence of active research in their field, including publications in quality international refereed journals. Preference will be given to applicants who can also contribute to other existing programmes within the faculty. The successful applicant will be required to teach within the Geography and Development programme specialising in some of the following; human migration, demographics, trade & industrial geography, gender studies or patterns of human development. h) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Environmental Studies (Remote Sensing & GIS) [UBD/FASS/008] Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant subject and show evidence of active research in the field, including publications in quality international refereed journals. Preference will be given to applicants who can also contribute to other existing programmes within the faculty. The successful applicant should demonstrate experience in teaching and research in remote sensing and GIS techniques applied to local environmental issues, e.g. tropical rainforests, forest management or habitat monitoring.

The successful applicant should have a strong background in water resources, hydrological processes and human influences on those processes, especially within the Southeast Asian region. j) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Environmental Studies (Tropical Forest and Wetland Ecologies) [UBD/FASS/010] Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant subject and show evidence of active research in the field, including publications in quality international refereed journals. Preference will be given to applicants who can also contribute to other existing programmes within the faculty. The successful applicant should show experience in teaching tropical ecosystem dynamics as well as relevant up-to-date management practices of the different ecological systems. k) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Analysis) [UBD/FASS/011] Environmental Studies (Environmental

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.F.A. degree in Ceramics and Sculpture or closely related discipline who have achieved at least 3 years university level teaching experience and national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of publications and exhibitions. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in hand building, throwing, glazing, kiln firing, sculpture, and setting up ceramic and sculpture studios. Some knowledge in mould making, glass fusing, wood carving, papermaking, mixed media, 3D design and installation are also welcome. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in high-level teaching in Ceramics and Sculpture as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of visual arts and creative technology. m) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Art History [UBD/FASS/013]

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Art History or Interdisciplinary Arts or closely related discipline who have achieved at least 3 years universtiy level teaching experience and national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of publications, paper presentations, and research success. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in Western art history from prehistoric art to contemporary art, Asian art, Islamic art, and interdisciplinary arts. Some knowledge in one or two of the following areas: art administration, art criticism, art therapy, and contemporary art theories are also welcome. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in high-level teaching in Art History as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of visual arts and creative technology.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.F.A. or M.Sc degree in Motion Graphics and 3D Animation or or closely related discipline who have achieved at least 3 years universtiy level teaching experience and national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of publications and exhibitions. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in 2D and 3D motion graphics, animation, HD video editing, surround sound mixing, scriptwriting, digital photography, and multimedia art. Some knowledge in setting up a video and audio production studio and contemporary art theories in multimedia and digital art are also welcome. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in high-level teaching in Motion Graphics and 3D Animation as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of visual arts and creative technology. o) Lecturer/Senior [UBD/FASS/015] Lecturer in Digital Photography and Videography

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.F.A. or M.Sc degree in Digital Photography and Videography or or closely related discipline who have achieved at least 3 years universtiy level teaching experience and national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of publications and exhibitions. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in digital photography, set photography, lighting, camera, digital imaging, HD video production, video editing, surround sound mixing, scriptwriting, web streaming, and digital art. Some knowledge in setting up a video and audio production studio, digital photography studio, and contemporary art theories in multimedia and digital art are also welcome. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in high-level teaching in Digital Photography and Videography as well as research and scholarhsip in relevant areas of visual arts and creative technology. p) Professor in Malay Language and Linguistics (Linguistics) [UBD/FASS/016]

Applicants must have a PhD in relevant subject and are bilinguals (Malay and English). The preference of fields for lecturer posts are Phonetic and Phonology, Phonetics Acoustics and Anthropology Linguistics. While for the Professorship, the eminent professor needs to have knowledge on the general linguistics core components. Specializations and interested on minority languages and language issues on this region are considered as an advantage. q) Lecturer in Malay Language and Linguistics (Phonetic & Phonology) [UBD/FASS/017] Applicants must have a PhD in relevant subject and are bilinguals (Malay and English). Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship or a related field from a recognised university, and demonstrated outstanding record of research productivity and teaching excellence. Postgraduate teaching experience will be preferred and an ability to teach other functional areas in management would be an added advantage. The successful applicant should be able to design and teach courses in areas of Management such as Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Active participation in the activities of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies is also expected. b) Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Strategic Management [UBD/FBEPS/002] Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Business or Management from a recognised university, and demonstrated outstanding record of research productivity and teaching excellence. Postgraduate teaching experience will be preferred and an ability to teach other functional areas in management would be an added advantage. The successful applicant should be able to design and teach courses in areas of Business, Management and Strategic Management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A demonstrated interest and ability to assume a leadership role in the Management group is highly desirable. Active participation in the activities of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies is also expected. c) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Operation Management [UBD/FBEPS/003] Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Operation Management or a related field from a recognised university, and demonstrated outstanding record of research productivity and teaching excellence. Postgraduate teaching experience will be preferred and an ability to teach other functional areas in management would be an added advantage. The successful applicant should be able to design and teach courses in areas of Operations Management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Active participation in the activities of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies is also expected. d) Senior Lecturer/Associate [UBD/FBEPS/004] Professor/Professor in Marketing

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Marketing or a related field from a recognised university, and demonstrated outstanding record of research productivity and teaching excellence. Postgraduate teaching experience will be preferred and an ability to teach other functional areas in management would be an added advantage. A demonstrated interest and ability to assume a leadership role in the Marketing group is highly desirable. The successful applicant should be able to design and teach courses in areas

of Marketing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Active participation in the activities of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies is also expected. e) Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor Management [UBD/FBEPS/005] in Human Resource

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Human Resource Management or a related field from a recognised university, and demonstrated outstanding record of research productivity and teaching excellence. Postgraduate teaching experience will be preferred and an ability to teach other functional areas in management would be an added advantage. A demonstrated interest and ability to assume a leadership role in the Human Resource Management group is highly desirable. The successful applicant should be able to design and teach courses in areas of Human Resource Management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Active participation in the activities of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies is also expected. f) Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Accounting (Auditing) [UBD/FBEPS/006] Applicant must have a PhD Degree in Accounting or a related field, strong academic background, demonstrated ability to teach both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and satisfactory research and publication record. The successful applicants should be able to design and teach courses in areas of Accounting, especially in Auditing. Active participation in the activities of the Accounting and Finance Programme and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies is also expected. g) Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Accounting (Corporate Reporting) [UBD/FBEPS/007] Applicant must have a PhD Degree in Accounting or a related field, strong academic background, demonstrated ability to teach both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and satisfactory research and publication record. The successful applicants should be able to design and teach courses in areas of Accounting, especially in Corporate Reporting and Advanced Corporate Reporting. Active participation in the activities of the Accounting and Finance Programme and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies is also expected. h) Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Islamic Banking and Finance/Islamic Economics [UBD/FBEPS/008] Applicant must have a PhD Degree in the specific fields, strong academic background, demonstrated ability to teach both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and satisfactory research and publication record. The successful applicants should be able to design and teach courses in areas of Islamic Banking, Islamic Finance and Islamic Economics. Active participation in the activities of the Accounting and Finance Programme and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies is also expected. He/she is also to contribute to and strengthen research in Islamic Banking/Finance/Economics at our Faculty. i) Associate Professor/Professor in Logistics and Supply Chain Management [UBD/FBEPS/009] Applicant must have a Ph.D. in the area of Logistics or Supply Chain Management or any related field from a recognised university. He/she must have demonstrated outstanding track record of research and teaching at the international level. Postgraduate teaching experience is essential as well as an ability to teach other areas

in logistics and materials management would be an added advantage. The successful applicant should be able to design and teach courses in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, and Global Logistics Management at the postgraduate levels. Active research facilitation, mentoring junior staff, global and regional networking and participation and advice in the academic matters of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies are expected. j) Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Transportation Management (Road/Airline/Shipping/Freight) [UBD/FBEPS/010] Applicant should have a Ph.D. in Transportation Management or Materials Management or any related field from a recognised university. He/she must have demonstrated crediable track record of research and teaching. Postgraduate teaching experience is essential as well as an ability to teach other areas in logistics and materials management would be an added advantage. The successful applicant should be able to design and teach courses in Transportation Management, International Shipping, Airline Planning and Management and other related Logistics modules at the postgraduate levels. Active research guidance and participation in the activities of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies are expected. k) Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Forecasting Modelling (Transport and Warehouse) [UBD/FBEPS/011] and

The successful applicant should be able to design and teach courses in Forecasting and modelling, Logistics Information Systems, Procurement and Inventory Management And other related areas of logisltics at the postgraduate levels. FACULTY OF SCIENCE a) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Nuclear Physics and Renewable Energy/Renewable and Sustainable Energy [UBD/FOS/001] Applicants should have a PhD in Applied Physics/material physics/solid state physics or a closely related discipline who have achieved or have the potential to achieve national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of research success. The University needs an energetic academic to lead research into renewable and sustainable energy; photovoltaic silicon based solar cells; dye-sensitized solar cells; solar thermal energy; energy management and energy security. This position involves: making major contributions to a current interdisciplinary research program (on renewable and sustainable energy; photovoltaic silicon based solar cells; dye-sensitized solar cells; solar thermal energy; energy management and energy security) and developing new collaborative research strategies to extend our adaptation work; and playing a key role in developing broader post-graduate education for this increasingly important field. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills, outstanding research leadership relative to opportunity in the areas of focus with pre-existing experience in attaining competitive research funding and recruiting and leading a research team, including research students, and high quality undergraduate and graduate teaching.

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Materials for Renewable Energy [UBD/FOS/002] Applicants should have a PhD in Applied Physics or a closely related discipline and have achieved or have the potential to achieve national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of research success. Preference will be given to those with specialization in Physics of Materials and their applications to renewable energy but other related specialisms will be considered. The successful candidate is expected to undertake teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising MSc and PhD students, as well as undertaking some administrative duties.

c)

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Mechatronics [UBD/FOS/003] Applicants should have a PhD in Mechatronics or a closely related discipline who have achieved or have the potential to achieve national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of research success. Preference will be given to those with specialization in Mechanical Design and model building for small and medium sized electro mechanical devices and their deployment for Energy Efficient applications. Hands on experience in CNC machines will be an added advantage for this position. The successful candidate is expected to undertake teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising MSc and PhD students, as well as taking some administrative duties.

Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Plant Taxonomist/Forest Botanist [UBD/FOS/004] Applicants should have a PhD in Plant Taxonomy / Forest Botany or any related field from a recognised University. The candidate should have specialization in taxonomic identification of higher plants, preferably with field experience and knowledge of South East Asian plants. Molecular taxonomic expertise will be an advantage. In addition to pursuing his/her own research, the appointee will also be expected to contribute and participate in ongoing research activities of the Biology Programme and teach courses in taxonomy, systematics and evolution, as well as organising and participating in field courses.

The successful applicant will be expected to engage in high-level teaching in chemistry as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of science and technology. f) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor Chemistry/Biotechnology [UBD/FOS/006] in Analytical

given to those with specialisation and expertise in biosensors/bioelectronics, immunosensor systems and recombinant DNA technology. The successful applicant will be expected to build new research activities in the areas of biosensor/immunosensor technology for detection and analysis of important substances in halal branding. g) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Chemical Instrumentation [UBD/FOS/007] Applicants should have a PhD in chemistry or closely related discipline who have achieved or have the potential to achieve national and international recognition in their fields with a demonstrated track record of research success. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in a broad range of chemical instrumentation systems including GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP, NMR, FTIR, NIR, and other spectroscopic, chromatographic and electrochemical systems. The successful applicant will be expected to play a significant role in teaching and research involving chemical instrumentation. h) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Computer Security) [UBD/FOS/008] in Computer Science

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or closely related discipline who have achieved or have the potential to achieve national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of research success. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in cybersecurity, network security, database security and/or cryptography. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in high-level teaching in Computer Science as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of science and technology. i) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate (Databases) [UBD/FOS/009] Professor in Computer Science

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or closely related discipline who have achieved or have the potential to achieve national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of research success. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in various databases like Oracle, Access, MySQL, DB2 etc. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in highlevel teaching in Computer Science as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of science and technology. j) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Computer Science (Image Processing) [UBD/FOS/010] Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or closely related discipline who have achieved or have the potential to achieve national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of research success. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in broad technologies of image and digital processing. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in high-level teaching in Computer Science as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of science and technology. k) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Computer Science (Game Design) [UBD/FOS/011] Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or closely related discipline who have achieved or have the potential to achieve national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of research success. given to those with specialisation and expertise in programming, software development, computer animation and/or Artificial Intelligence. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in high-level teaching in Computer Science as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of science and technology. l) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate (Multimedia) [UBD/FOS/012] Professor in Computer Science

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or closely related discipline who have achieved or have the potential to achieve national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of research success. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in Internet and multimedia technologies including multimedia development. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in high-level teaching in Computer Science as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of science and technology. m) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Computer Graphics) [UBD/FOS/013] in Computer Science

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or closely related discipline who have achieved or have the potential to achieve national and international recognition in their field with a demonstrated track record of research success. Preference will be given to those with specialisation and expertise in graphics visualisation, 3D animation and/or design and development of graphics imaging tools. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in high-level teaching in Computer Science as well as research and scholarship in relevant areas of science and technology. n) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Geoscientists (Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology/ Geochemistry) [UBD/FOS/014] Applicants should hold a PhD in Geology/Geophysics/Geochemistry or related subjects and have an excellent research record. Petroleum industry experience is preferred but not essential. Applicants should have the ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Enthusiasm for developing and teaching field courses is essential. All fields of Geosciences will be considered but preference will be given to those specializing in Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, Geochemistry. Applicants are expected to be part of a core team playing a vital role in the development of a new four year undergraduate program and teaching/supervising at postgraduate level. o) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Geoscientists (Palaeontology/ Palynology/ Biostratigraphy) [UBD/FOS/015] Applicants should hold a PhD in Geology/Geophysics/Geochemistry or related subjects and have an excellent research record. Petroleum industry experience is preferred but not essential. Applicants should have the ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
