    Urge the White House and Congress TODAY to uphold the new regulation requiring hotel swimming pools to be accessible The Disability Rights Legal Center urges you to call the White House and members of Congress today to urge them not to rescind a regulation that goes into effect his week requiring hotels to make their swimming pools accessible for people with disabilities. There are now strong indications that the Obama Administration will tell the Department of Justice to rescind the Americans with Disabilities Act pool regulation that becomes effective today, March 15. To contact the White House, call Kareem Dale Special Assistant to the President for Disability Policy, 202-456-4767. To contact members of Congress, call the Congressional Operator at 202-224-3121. Calls to the White House today are most critical. The DRLC urges you to call the White House and members of Congress TODAY and tell them that: * People with disabilities should have the same access to recreational and exercise opportunities as everyone else. * Backtracking on the ADA is unacceptable; the requirements of the Act should not be postponed for one particular type of public accommodation. It sets a terrible precedent. * The ADA has required covered entities to remove barriers and to provide program access since 1990. * The specific swimming pool accessibility standards have been in the regulatory process since 2004. * The final regulation language and the standards have been out since September 15, 2010 so the entities have had 18 months to get ready. * It is a "barrier removal" requirement, which is subject to an "undue burden" defense so they are not going to lose a lawsuit filed on September 16 if they do not have a lift in place by tomorrow.
