SECTION
I:
GENERAL
RULES
AND
REGULATIONS
A.
PERSONAL
AND
TEAM
CONDUCT
1.
Participants
are
required
to
represent
themselves
and
their
respective
schools
with
respect
and
dignity.
2.
Any
team
or
individual
involved
in
destructive
or
negative
conduct
at
Post-Secondary
Games
2012
events
or
venues,
including
hotels,
will
be
ejected
from
the
tournament
at
the
discretion
of
the
Advisory
Committee.
Spirit
Deposits
may
also
be
forfeited.
3.
For
a
list
of
all
on
court
violations
leading
to
suspension
or
disqualification,
please
refer
to
the
Registration
Package.
4.
The
Advisory
Committee
reserves
the
right
to
disqualify
any
team
based
on
the
behaviour
of
any
given
team
member
of
that
particular
team.
B.
CHECK-IN
PROCEDURES
1.
A
representative
from
each
team
(coach/captain)
is
required
to
check-in
at
the
score
table
prior
to
each
game.
Here
they
must
fill
out
game
roster
sheets
fully
and
accurately.
2.
Each
member
of
the
team
is
required
to
hand
in
provided
lanyards
with
their
student
card
and
Spirit
Deposit
Coupon
to
officials
at
the
score
table
prior
to
the
game.
An
individual
who
fails
to
do
so
is
defined
as
INELIGIBLE
to
play
in
that
game.
Failure
to
comply
will
result
in
a
FORFEIT
and
the
loss
of
half
the
Spirit
Deposit
($10).
C.
STARTING
TIME
OF
GAMES
1.
All
teams
are
required
to
be
at
their
games
five
minutes
prior
to
start
time.
2.
All
games
will
start
on
time.
3.
A
late
team
will
be
given
a
grace
period
of
five
(5)
minutes
past
the
scheduled
start
time,
which
will
be
deducted
from
the
total
playing
time.
4.
If
a
team
fails
to
meet
the
minimum
number
of
players,
as
per
sport
specific
rules
(below),
after
the
grace
period,
the
team
will
be
required
to
default
and
a
win
will
be
awarded
to
the
opposing
team.
5.
If
both
teams
are
late,
both
will
default
and
no
points
will
be
awarded.

6.
Teams
defaulting
a
game
for
any
reason
will
have
half
their
Spirit
Deposit
forfeited.
D.
COACHES
AND
CAPTAINS
1.
Each
team
must
have
a
designated
captain.
2.
Referees
decisions
are
final.
3.
Only
captains
and
coaches
may
address
a
referee
with
concerns.
The
captain/coach
is
expected
to
be
courteous
and
respectful.
Any
verbal
abuse
or
physical
contact
with
a
referee
will
result
in
ejection
and
will
be
reviewed
by
the
Advisory
Committee.
4.
Captains
and
coaches
are
expected
to
know
the
rules
and
abide
by
them.
They
must
also
make
sure
all
team
members
are
aware
of
the
rules
and
their
consequences.
SECTION
II:
THE
GAME
A.
NUMBER
OF
PLAYERS
1.
Each
team
is
required
to
have
a
minimum
of
4
players
on
the
court
to
start
the
game.
2.
2
males
and
2
females
must
be
on
the
court
at
all
times
for
each
team.
3.
If
the
4-player
minimum
is
not
met,
and
the
5-minute
grace
period
expires,
the
team
will
default
the
first
set.
If
the
team
does
not
meet
the
minimum
requirement
after
10
minutes,
the
game
will
be
defaulted.
4.
In
the
event
of
a
default,
the
winning
team
will
be
awarded
3
points
and
a
2-0
win.
5.
If
both
teams
are
late,
they
will
both
forfeit
the
game
and
no
points
will
be
awarded
in
the
standings.
6.
Teams
who
default
a
game
will
lose
half
of
their
Spirit
Deposit
($10).
B.
EQUIPMENT
1.
Game
balls
will
be
available
on
site.
Teams
are
expected
to
bring
their
own
balls
to
warm
up
with,
as
equipment
will
not
be
provided.
2.
Jewellery
and
non-elastic
headbands
are
not
permitted
on
the
court.
Players
found
with
such
items
during
the
game
will
be
asked
to
leave
play
until
the
item
is
removed.
3.
Kneepads
are
recommended
and
must
be
self-provided.

GAME
TIMES
1.
All
round
robin
games
will
consist
of
a
best
of
3
sets.
The
first
two
sets
will
be
to
25
points.
The
third
set
will
be
played
to
15
points,
with
teams
switching
sides
at
7
points.
2.
Teams
must
win
by
2
points
with
a
cap
set
at
27
points
for
the
first
two
sets
and
17
for
the
third.
3.
There
will
be
a
time
limit
of
30
minutes
4.
Playoffs
will
consist
of
a
best
of
3
sets
with
all
sets
being
to
25
points
and
a
cap
set
at
30.
Final
games
will
not
have
a
cap
set.
5.
A
win
gets
3
points
in
the
divisional
standings.
6.
A
tie
gets
1
point
in
the
divisional
standings.
7.
A
loss
gets
0
points
in
the
divisional
standings.
8.
Divisional
standing
will
be
ranked
based
on
the
number
of
points.
In
the
event
of
a
tie
in
the
standings,
the
following
will
be
used
as
tie
breakers
(in
this
order):
total
wins,
points
for,
points
against,
record
between
teams,
coin
toss.
D.
GAME
SPECIFIC
RULES
1.
Each
team
is
entitled
to
a
maximum
of
3
hits
per
side.
A
block
is
not
considered
a
hit.
2.
If
a
team
uses
all
three
hits,
both
genders
must
hit
the
ball
once.
If
less
than
three
hits
are
used,
any
member
of
the
team
can
hit
the
ball.
3.
The
ball
may
be
contacted
by
any
part
of
the
body
provided
the
ball
has
been
clearly
hit
with
a
fluid
motion
and
has
not
visibly
come
to
rest
(ie.
Lifted,
pushed,
or
thrown
ball
is
considered
a
lift
fault).
4.
If
a
player
contacts
the
ball
more
than
once
in
succession,
he/she
commits
a
double
contact
foul.
5.
A
back
row
player
can
only
spike
the
ball
from
behind
the
attack
line
(player
cannot
jump
in
front
of
attack
line).
6.
A
player
is
not
allowed
to
take
support
from
teammates
or
any
structure
to
help
in
contacting
the
ball.
7.
The
ball
must
cross
the
net
between
the
sidelines
and
above
the
net.

8. The ball is allowed to touch the net before crossing it, including on a serve. 9. Incidental contact or shirt touching with the net is not a fault, except when a player touches it during the action of playing the ball or it interferes with the play. 10. Substitutions are unlimited. 11. One 30-second timeout is permitted per set per team. 12. Inappropriate or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in a yellow card. Two yellow cards will result in a red card and player ejection from the game. Should a player receive a red card, the team will face a one-point deduction. All red cards will be reviewed by the Advisory Committee to determine whether further action is necessary. E. SERVICE 1. You may only toss to serve once. You are not allowed to toss and let the ball drop for another toss. 2. The server must contact the ball within 8 seconds after the referee whistles for the service. 3. You must serve according to your rotation. Violation of this rule will result in a rotational fault. 4. At the moment of service hit, the server must be in the serving zone behind the court between the sidelines. 5. Your foot may not touch the line on a serve. Foot foul will result in a loss of serve. 6. A player may serve for 5 straight points per service possession; then the serve is turned over to the next player in the rotation.
