A Day Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who was able to help out with our first annual Pi Day Celebration! We had many families bring in pies, cookies, chocolates, and cupcakes to celebrate the day. Students were also able to compare the length of a bike to the circumference of its tires. They learned a great deal this week and we couldnt have done it without all of your help! Thank you!!!

Vocabulary and Spelling Students are continuing their study of analyzing Greek and Latin Root words according to Harry Potter. Ask about the lumos! Also, students have started to make root trees where they use the trunk of the tree for the root word and the branches for words formed with that root. Wordly wise has continued this week. Students are in charge of 15 words each week for spelling and vocabulary meanings and different ways to use each word. Reading and Writing All readers and writers have been working hard to understand different forms of poetry. This week students focused on poetry that can be connected to different pieces of prose. They are learning to compare and contrast and contrast the two different forms of literature.

are traveling 'Back to the Future' of the Medieval Times. Our world travelers have discussed their prior knowledge of the Middle Ages and what the Dark Ages were. They have also discovered where the Middle Ages took place and can tell you the location. Next week students will take a look at the social ladder of the Medieval Times by becoming those people. Students will become experts on their group (kings, queens, noblemen, peasants, farmers, etc.) and they will present their findings to the class. Towards the end of the week students will begin to discover what the crusades were and the major people who played a part of the crusades. Silly Haiku of the week

Scientists have one more lab to complete on photosynthesis. They will test certain food for their energy level early next week. This will complete our unit on ecosystems. Students will have a review session and then a final test later in the week I can. . . Explain the process of photosynthesis

First, I would to thank all of the parents who sent in circular goodies for PI day. It was an awesome success. Special thanks to Ms. Lee for coordinating that. This coming week we will continue to work in our geometry units. Students will, for the remainder of the year, have two different homework assignments. Students will continue to have book work on a near daily basis. The addition is students will receive a packet at the beginning of an assessment period. The packet is due the day before the quiz/test. We will use the packet as our review. Students are required to complete the practice pages. If they wish to be eligible for a grade higher than a 3.0, then they are invited to do the problem solving or challenge pages. Rotation 1 will be working on properties of similar figures, congruency and geometric shapes. The current packet for rotation 1 is due on Monday with a quiz on Tuesday. Rotation 2 will be working on basics of geometry including lines, angle relationships and geometric shapes. The current packet for this rotation is due on Friday and the students have a quiz on Monday. Rotation 3 will be working on geometric shapes, principles and formulas. The current packet is due on Monday with a quiz on Tuesday.
