PART A

Effectiveness is referred to as "doing things right" while efficiency is referred to as "doing the right things". To be an effective manager at all levels requires the same amount of conceptual, human and technical skills. The best managerial actions in a given situation, according to contingency approach, depend on the elements of that situation. Decision making process is the process of choosing one alternative from among sets of alternative. Organizational planning is concerned with how objectives are to be accomplished, not what to be accomplished. Unity of command is the number of subordinates a manager can supervise efficiently and effectively. Delegation refers to the process of transferring the authority for a specific activity or task to another member of the organization and empowering that individual to accomplish the task effectively. According to Maslow, a person will satisfy his self-esteem needs before his social needs. Douglas McGregor identified two basic assumptions of managers which he called Theory X and Theory Z. Participatory style of leadership is usually used in a situation that requires teamwork. To be successful in Total Quality Management, all employees must be committed, achieved teamwork excellence and practice the process of continuous improvement. The situational approach to leadership emphasizes that there is one best approach to leadership, and all managers should be trained to use this approach. Masruiyah in Islamic Management means a leader or manager must be fair to all employees. Controlling involves monitoring the performance of the organization, identifying deviation between planned and actual results, and taking corrective action when necessary.
