SQUADRON NEWS

CONCORD COMPOSITE SQUADRON The squadron open house held in September was very successful with 16 new cadets joining up. Six cadets attended the Color/Honor Guard academy held in November. Cadets Loll and Bloom were on staff. Cadets Officer, Dio, Dempsey and Gobin completed the training and now are eligible to wear the while shoulder cord. Members participated in the Concord Holiday parade on November 19th and they can be seen on You Tube and on WMURs ULOCAL. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------MORE CONGRATULATIONS LTC Charlie Freeman is a member of the New Hampshire Wings Lebanon Composite Squadron and is the first member to add a Private Glider Pilot rating in the CAP glider program in recent years. Charlie is currently a CAP Search and Rescue and Disaster Relief Mission Pilot, as well as a Cadet Orientation Pilot, Transport Mission Pilot, Glider Tow Pilot and now also a Glider Pilot. Charlie did

his glider training with fellow CAP squadron member and FAA CFI-G Capt.Thomas Scheidegger, along with the help of the New England Soaring Association in Springfield, Vermont. Lt. Matt Towsley a member of the New Hampshire Wings Greater Nashua Composite Squadron is the first CAP member to attain a Commercial Glider Pilot rating in recent memory. A graduate of Daniel Webster College, Matt is currently a CAP Search and Rescue and Disaster Relief Mission Pilot, as well as a Cadet Orientation Pilot, and Transport Mission Pilot. Matt did his glider training with fellow CAP squadron member and FAA CFI-G Maj. John Williams, along with the help of the New England Soaring Association in Springfield, Vermont. These achievements were possible because of the one of a kind, outstanding program CAP provides for all members, Cadets and Seniors alike. The CAP Glider program is the only CAP program where a member with no prior flying experience at all, can learn to fly and acquire their FAA Private Pilot Certificate and continue their training through Commercial Glider Pilot and even Certified Flight Instructor with Glider Rating. The absolute beauty of the Glider program is that a Cadet can legally solo a Glider at only 14 years old and then earn their FAA License on their 16th birthday, and you dont even need a FAA medical certificate to pilot a Glider. Its an incredible concept to ponder; a Cadet can fly their parents around in a Glider all day long, but are probably not able to drive their parents to the airport because they are still too young to drive a car. Check out the CAP Glider program, get involved, and come fly with us! Maj. John Williams,CAP FAA CFI-G

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA 2011 NH Wing conducted the annual Wreaths Across America ceremony at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen on December 10th. This was the sixth year that CAP was in charge of this event. Col Bill Moran was again the Master of Ceremonies and the Concord Sq. Color Guard showed their expertise in posting the colors. Prior to the ceremony a number of cadets helped lay the wreaths sponsored by NH CAP squadrons. The monies from the sale of these wreaths went to the Wendy Wallace Fund to assist our Wing Finance Officer with her medical expenses due to her recent illness.
