Introduction A CRS typically provides the following functions Flight schedule information: Days and times for flights

hts operated by the airline Availability information: Seat availability on a flight by service class, i.e. Economy, Business or First class Fare quotes: A consolidated fare for an itinerary based on flight, day, time, service class and passenger types chosen Reservation information: Seat bookings Ticketing information: Generating and storing tickets Refunds and cancellations: Cancellation of existing reservations and tickets

Although the CRSs simplified the task of maintaining airline data, they brought in new problems In order to handle increasing passenger traffic, large computer systems were required for CRSs. This created a cost burden for airlines, especially the smaller ones which did not have enough money to spend on expensive mainframe technology CRSs were airline specific. This required travel agencies who wanted to sell tickets for multiple airlines to have individual connections to each airline separately Availability and fare searches across airlines were not possible since each airline had its own CRS. Since most passengers were interested in purchasing the cheapest fare rather than a specific airline, travel agents had to spend inordinate amount of time to determine cheapest fares across airlines

Background of the Study

A computer reservations system (or central reservation system) (CRS) is a computerized system used to store and retrieve information and conduct transactions related to air travel. Originally designed and operated by airlines, CRSes were later extended for the use of travel agencies. Major CRS operations that book and sell tickets for multiple airlines are known as global distribution systems (GDS). Airlines have divested most of their direct holdings to dedicated GDS companies, who make their systems accessible to consumers through Internet gateways. Modern GDSes typically allow users to book hotel rooms and rental cars as well as airline tickets. They also provide access to railway reservations and bus reservations in some markets although these are not always integrated with the main system. Foscon Ship Management, a Philippine registered Manning Agency, which was adopted on July 8, 2005 and registered with Securities and Exchange Commission (Sec) and duly licensed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) with Certificate No. POEA 023-SB041805-R dated 11 August 2005, and now renewed under Certificate No. POEA-040-SB-050709R last April 17, 2009 to April 16, 2013. Was created for the purpose of supplying various clients worldwide with well competent and qualified seafarers to serve onboard ocean-going vessels and render all other marine related services to foreign principals. Acquired the approval of Bureau Veritas S.A Phils. (BVQI) for Quality Management System of ISO 9001:2000 as Crewing Agency last May 4, 2006 with Certificate No. 192179, and BVQI has approved the re-certification of FOSCON SHIPMANAGEMENT INC. to ISO 9001:2008 QMS Standard under reference No. 272633 with UKAS accreditation last May 10, 2009.

Objective of the study

General Objective: To enhance the companys (FOSCON Ship Management Inc.) network infrastructure that will enable a faster and more efficient transaction for the company to provide a better service for its local and foreign principals.

To design a new network structure for either wired or wireless communication. To install or apply new software(s) suited for every department in the network, again for ease of access.

To develop and apply an improved network technology for faster and easier access, more efficient network communication and an improved system for the whole company.

Specific Objective: To update the companys (FOSCON Ship Management Inc.) online reservation system structure that will enable a faster booking of tickets and other transactions that the company will accept.

To upgrade their former system To update all the features of the proposed system To increase the process of transactions per day To lessen the use of time management

Scope and Limitation Scope: Simplified access to possibly all airlines, through a single interface Ability to connect to multiple airlines either through legacy mainframe clients or modern PC based clients Less maintenance and up-keep overhead Ability to combine airline inventories change of their existing network technology replacement or upgrading of each units in accordance with the changes planned implementation of security policies depending on the task assigned to a user and the improvement of the wired & wireless network

Limitation: Travel agents required individual connections to airlines If two or more airlines used different mainframe systems, travel agents had to use and be trained on different mainframe clients Inability to perform direct searches across airline systems

Combining airline inventories a tedious process because inventory searches and reservations had to be performed in individual airline CRSs separately

collection of funds are out of our scope capability of the company considering different factors changing of the operating system

Significance of the study Company In the presence of the new and updated system, among the data or data transmission from other companies will be present in the subject company, FOSCON Ship Management Inc. From the new and developed system, the company will be experiencing good feedbacks from the costumers (or partner company/ies) because of experiencing a different way and processes made. Students The students, on the other hand will then learn various lessons in this study. They will then be able to know how important jobs are, and how important reputation is, especially when you are dealing with foreign principals. Also, in relation to this course, the researches will then know and maybe troubleshoot some of the problems that may occur on the companys new proposed system. Adding up, the researchers will also get to analyze

and visualize any improvement that has to be done on the new proposed system of the building which can help the previous system go faster and more efficient.

METHODOLOGY

SIX SIGMA METHODOLOGIES: We used this methodology because the work of the many project quality experts contributed to the development. The 2 main methodologies are used to improve an existing business process: DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design and Verify) is used to create new product / or to process design to achieve predictable, defect-free performance. DMAIC (Define, Measure Analyze, Improve and Control) is used to improve the existing product of the airline.

CHAPTER 3

RELATED STUDIES We conducted interviews from several shipping companies to gather our data, and we proudly selected FOSCON SHIP MANAGEMENT INC because they must showcase a new and developed system to have the fastest booking and efficient transaction to cater their local and international commitments. Aside from this field interviews we gather some of our data through internet and website below:

The proponents primarily choose the topic because of the abundant resources around us, and resources are one of the most important factors to consider before conducting a research or study. The proponents were able to found out that there are a lot of studies before that is related to the one presented now.

Look for in a Windows Operating System? When considering a new Windows operating system it is most important to think about how you intend to use the computer. After deciding your computer's primary function, you will need to decide what kind of networking and administrations tools you need and the level of security you desire. There are several things to evaluate which operating system works the best: Home and Office Use, Multimedia Use, Security, Networking, Ease of Use, Technical Help/Support.
