THE STRAPS

Button hole note: Only if the straps have to be detachable. In the third row, knit in a button hole by casting of the 6th and the 7th stitch. In the next row, add two stitches in the same place. Add a second button hole in third last row of the straps. RIGHT STRAP: Cast on 12 stitches Row 1: Knit all stitches Row 2: Purl all stitches Row 3: Knit all stitches Row 4: Purl all stitches Row 5: Cross 3 R, cross 3 R. Row 6: Purl all stitches Repeat from row 1, until enough cable units are knit. Knit until row 4 and leave right strap on needle and start knitting the left strap. To determine the amount of cable units you need, put on the tube dress and determine how long you want your straps to be. LEFT STRAP: Cast on 12 stitches Row 1: Knit all stitches Row 2: Purl all stitches Row 3: Knit all stitches
-2-

Row 4: Purl all stitches Row 5: Cross 3 L, cross 3 L Row 6: Purl all stitches Repeat from row 1, until the same amount of cable units are knit as on the right side. Knit until row 4. Now the straps will come together as following: Make sure that the right strap is on the right side of the needle and the left strap is on the left. Thus, the stitches of the right strap are knitted first. The 24 (12+12) stitches will be treated as one piece now for a few cable units. This means the cable structure will be different: Row 1: Cross 3 R, cross 3 R, Cross 3 L, cross 3 L. Row 2: Purl all stitches Row 3: Knit all stitches Row 4: Purl all stitches Row 5: Knit all stitches Row 6: Knit all stitches Repeat from row 1, until 5 cable units are knit. Knit row 1 for a last time. Separate the straps again (12-12 stitches). Knit further as in the first part of the strap pattern until each strap is long enough to reach the front of the dress.
