E N T W I T H D I A B E T I C F O O T ( P O S T B K A ) Placement: Level IV 2nd Semester, NCM 105-Surgical Nursing Rotation Topic: Care of patient with diabetic foot (post

BKA) Time Allotment: 1 Hour Topic Description: This topic provides the student nurse with an understanding of diabetes from a physical perspective. The diabetic patient is at increased risk of peripheral arterial disease that may lead to critical ischemia with subsequent sequelae for the legs and feet. Too frequently, surgical amputation is the only option for managing nonviable digits and feet. BKA or Below Knee Amputation is an inevitable option of managing diabetic food disease. Postoperative care of patients who underwent BKA will be discussed extensively. Such knowledge is required of the student nurse to enable her to optimally care for his/her patient. Central Objective: At the end of 1 hour discussion, the learners shall gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes and values towards the care of clients with diabetic foot who underwent Below Knee Amputation.
