This medication relieves pain and reduces inflammation Indication: Pain and inflammation Contraindication: Inflammatory bowel disease; peptic ulcer; neonates; pregnancy (3rd trimester), lactation. Coronary artery bypass graft surgery, severe renal impairment, severe heart failure. Special precaution: Renal and hepatic impairment, asthma. Monitor blood counts and liver function during long-term therapy. Drowsiness may affect ability to perform skilled tasks. Elderly. Drug: Rivotril Generic Name: Clonazepam Brand Name: Klonopin , Clonex Dosage: 2mg 1/4 tab @ hours of sleep, PRN Classification: Benzodiazepines Action: Rivotril is used alone or along with other medications to treat convulsive disorders such as epilepsy. Clonazepam is metabolized by the liver to inactive metabolites, which are excreted mainly in the urine. It is also prescribed for panic disorder--unexpected attacks of overwhelming panic accompanied by fear of recurrence. Rivotril is useful alone or as an adjunct in the treatment of the Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (petit mal variant), akinetic and myoclonic seizures. In patients with absence seizures (petit mal) who have failed to respond to succinimides, Rivotril may be useful. Contraindication: hypersensitivity angle-closure glaucoma myasthenia respiratory depression respiratory embarrassment liver and/or renal insufficiency breast-feeding

Special Precaution: Before taking Rivotril: Because of the possibility that adverse effects on childhood physical or mental development could become apparent only after years, a risk-benefit consideration of the long-term use of clonazepam is important in pediatric patients. Klonopin capsule must not be used during pregnancy as it may cause harmful side effects to the unborn child. Seek medical advice from your doctor. Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Klonopin, aspirin, tartrazine (a yellow dye in some processed foods and drugs), or any other drugs.

If you have several types of seizures, this drug may increase the possibility of grand mal seizures (epilepsy). Inform your doctor if this occurs Talk with your physician or pharmacist if you are taking other medications along with Klonopin. Breast Feeding - Mothers who are taking Klonopin and who wish to breast-feed should discuss this with their doctor. Do not drink alcohol while taking Klonopin. Alcohol may increase drowsiness caused by Klonopin. It may also increase the risk of seizures. Klonopin slows the nervous system and its effects may be intensified by alcohol. Do not drink while taking this medication. Caution patients receiving clonazepam against engaging in hazardous occupations requiring complete mental alertness, such as operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle.

Generic Name: HYDROCORTISONE Sodium Succinate Brand Name: (Solu-Cortef) Dosage: 100 mg IV Q6H Classification: Actions: Hydrocortisone sodium succinate has the same metabolic and anti-inflammatory actions as hydrocortisone. When given parenterally and in equimolar quantities, the two compounds are equivalent in biologic activity. Following the intravenous injection of hydrocortisone sodium succinate, demonstrable effects are evident within one hour and persist for a variable period. Excretion of the administered dose is nearly complete within 12 hours. Thus, if constantly high blood levels are required, injections should be made every 4 to 6 hours. This preparation is also rapidly absorbed when administered intramuscularly and is excreted in a pattern similar to that observed after intravenous injection. Contraindications: Systemic fungal infections and known hypersensitivity to the drug or any component of formulation. Administration of live or live, attenuated vaccines is contraindicated in patients receiving immunosuppressive doses of corticosteroids. Special Precautions: Corticosteroids may mask some signs of infection, and new infections may appear during their use. There may be decreased resistance and inability to localize infection when corticosteroids are used. Infections with any pathogen including viral, bacterial, fungal, protozoan or helminthic infections. In any location of the body, may be associated with the use of corticosteroids alone or in combination with other immunosuppressive agents that affect cellular immunity, humoral immunity or neutrophil function.

These infections may be mild, but can be severe, and at times fatal. With increasing doses of corticosteroids, the rate of occurrence of infectious complications increases. Severe allergic reactions:

Health Teaching: Instruct patient to take daily P.O. dose with food by 8 A.M. Urge patient to immediately report unusual weight gain, face or leg swelling, epigastric burning, vomiting of blood, black tarry stools, irregular menstrual cycles, fever, prolonged sore throat, cold or other infection, or worsening of symptoms. Tell patient using topical form not to apply occlusive dressing unless instructed by prescriber. Advise patient to discontinue topical drug and notify prescriber if local irritation occurs.

Instruct patient to eat small, frequent meals and to take antacids as needed to minimize GI upset. Tell patient that response to drug will be monitored regularly. Caution patient not to stop taking drug abruptly. In long-term use, instruct patient to have regular eye exams. Instruct patient to wear medical identification stating that he's taking this drug. As appropriate, review all other significant and life-threatening adverse reactions and interactions, especially those related to the drugs, tests, herbs, and behaviors mentioned above.

Indication: for Moderate to severe pain Contraindicatons: Acute intoxication w/ alcohol, hypnotics, narcotics, centrally-acting analgesics, opioids or psychotropic drugs. Hypersensitivity. Epilepsy, history of seizures, increased intracranial pressure or head trauma patients at risk for resp depression, w/drawal symptoms upon abrupt discontinuation, opioid-dependent patients.
