4 1 Period (1 Hours) Physics Topic 2 Force and Motion : Determine the factors that affect elasticity of springs : By the end of this lesson, student will be able to: 1. Define the elastic and Hookes Law 2. Can verify the factors that affect elasticity of springs by relate with the Hookes law.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Knowledge

i. ii. iii.

Define the elastic and Hookes Law Explain relationship between force and extension of the springs. Give another factor that affects the elasticity of springs. Using diagram to evaluate information and determine its relevance in relation to given information need. Speaking. Critical thinking. Students will improve their self-confident during the process of gathering information. Cooperation increases communications skills. Diagram of the springs. Hand-out lecture note and example exercises.

Previous knowledge

This is a continuation to the previous lesson.

STAGE/ TIME Set Induction (Engage) 5 minutes

CONTENT

TEACHERS ACTIVITIES 1. Displays all types spring brought in by students. 2. Categorizes spring items under a few group eg: Type, diameter of wire, diameter of spring and its length. 3. Ask the student the following slide no 2 power point.

STUDENTS ACTIVITIES 1. Shown the example of springs. 2. Sit properly at own seat. 3. Listen carefully and answer the questions based on the slide show. 4. Asks questions and shows interest in the topic

REMARKS

Development Stage 1 (Explore) 10 minutes

Whole-class discussion

Material: Powerpoint: Slide 3 Note: page 1 Understanding Elasticity

1. Asks to define elastic and Hookes Law. (Previous knowledge). 2. Ask what the factors that affect elasticity of spring. 3. Asked to tell the class useful information found on the labels.

1. Answer the given questions. 2. Given different factors elasticity of spring. 3. Given diameter of wire, diameter of spring and length as the various that can affect the elastic of spring.

Rationale Students are informed of the different types of spring and can affect the elasticity.

STAGE/ TIME Development Stage 2 (Explain) 10 minutes

CONTENT

TEACHERS ACTIVITIES 1. Ask student to explain about concept of springs elasticity and try to define in their own words (what they understand about springs elasticity). 2. Relate elasticity of spring with students previous experiences and daily applications.

STUDENTS ACTIVITIES 1. Sit in group and ask student to explain to their friend what they understand about elasticity. 2. Listen and try to understand the explanation delivered by the teacher.

REMARKS

Note: Elasticity of the springs

Development Stage 3 (Elaborate) 20 minutes

Experiment Material: PowerPoint: Slide 6-9 Hand-out : Example For Paper 3 SPM

1. Explain the relationship of force extension of spring through experiment.

1. Listening and note taking

Rationale Students learn to think and consider relation of force versus spring extension.

2. Investigate the factors by given the observation 2. Gives different and discussion for situations and calls elastic of spring. upon students to respond how 3. Ask for any extension of spring enquiry during the corresponding to discussion. the force that act on it. 4. Answering the questions. 3. Ask to given the observation and discuss through situation to get ideas and understanding about elasticity.

STAGE/ TIME Development Stage 4 (Evaluate) 10 minutes

CONTENT

TEACHERS ACTIVITIES 1. Explains the exercise to students.

STUDENTS ACTIVITIES 1. Students have to give their answers and then discuss together in the class.

REMARKS

Group- work

Material: Page 1 exercise section B. (refer hand out).

Rationale Critical thinking on how to answer the questions given. Summary 5 minutes

2. Discuss on factors of elasticity exercise. 2. In groups are given hand out to work on based on the given instruction for the activity.

1. Goes through the days lesson. 2. Open for questioning session. 3. Asked to done the homework and preparation for the next lesson.

1. Listening 2. Questioning and answering.

Evalution: 1. Teacher gives some examples of question about todays topic. 2. Teacher asks student to relate todays topic with their own experience during the experiment to study the factors affecting elastic of spring.
