Interface Settings
REASON Express offers flexibility in how much guidance and discipline the software provides in the process of eliciting and analyzing relevant case facts. The default settings are for a medium level of rigor, but offers an Interface Settings panel that will allow you to make various adjustments. REASON Express was designed to allow the user to circumvent the rigor enforced in REASON Pro, thus expediting the analysis process. This tier should be used on "medium" level problems, those for which most of the possible solution options and corrective opportunities should be uncovered The Interface Settings panel below can be accessed either by clicking on Advanced button on the End Result - Problem Statement window or by clicking on Interface Settings in the File menu.

Quick Settings Slide Bar - Click on the bar holding the mouse button down and slide it up and down to adjust the level of rigor in REASON Express.
High - The same level of rigor as in REASON pro. Rigor Level of questions - The Expert System in REASON will ask the most explicit questions. Enforce Patterns - The Expert System will enforce the REASON patterns (for example, Pattern 1 requires that there is a Change in the set explaining another Change). Medium Rigor Level of questions - The Expert System in REASON will ask the most explicit questions. Enforce Patterns - The Expert System will not enforce the patterns (for example, REASON will not insist that there be a Change in the set explaining another Change). Low Rigor Level of questions - The Expert System in REASON will ask the questions in a style more "relaxed" and less reflective of the REASON patterns. Enforce Patterns - The Expert system will not enforce the patterns (for example, REASON will not insist that there be a Change in the set explaining another Change. Custom - Allows you to select the combination of interface settings you want.

Enforce Patterns
When checked, the Expert System will enforce the REASON patterns (for example, Pattern 1 requires that there is a Change in the set explaining another Change). If pattern enforcement is on and you attempt to release the case to Lessons Learned, REASON will search for pattern errors and disallow release to Lessons Learned until errors are corrected.

Minimal Guidance
Turns guidance questions off so that the advice window does not appear while you are building sets or editing the model.

Rigor Level of Questions

Guidance questions are either more or less explicit in eliciting the detail required by the REASON logic rules and patterns.

Order of Guidance Questions Build Sets - REASON guides you to complete each set of causal factors before moving on to explain another factor (default setting in REASON Professional). Follow Chains - REASON guides you to follow the chain of factors under the factor you just entered into the model. After you terminate a chain, REASON will take you to
the next open chain.

RC Selection Method RC Wizard - REASON guides the RC selection process by asking a series of questions about your company's business processes. Stop or Go - User applies Organizational Principles in selecting RC (Available only to Power Users and Administrators) Confirm Rewordings
The natural language process will try to reword your cause statements automatically according to the REASON Logic Rules and Pattern Rules. This option allows you to view and confirm (or reject) the rewording before REASON applies it.

Use Templates Provides a template (as used in REASON 4 and 5) for entering cause statements.

For more, see Using the Template for entering Changes, Conditions and Inactions.
