Work in Progress on a Screenplay for TV/ Film entitled From Big Brother to Green Pastures

John E. Holland, my friend and co-worker in the field of literary and artistic ventures, and I myself wish to present to an interested audience a play entitled From Big Brother to Green Pastures / The Relevance of Ancient Sacred Symbols to the World Today This takes the form of scenes that lend themselves to presentation in a television series in a manner known to anybody who follows sit-coms, though our play shares features of classic drama in its development and final resolution. Already we wish to enable potential viewers and listeners to follow the action of this play through a number of video clips (see below) and audio files, though a good many of those we wish to present are yet to be produced. In the competitive world of scriptwriting the prospect of finding a producer for one's work is far from rosy, and for lack of an immediate opportunity to find actors and sets, why not invent one's own with a little imagination, sketching and the use of readily available video and audio file techniques and the vast possibilities afforded by the Internet? What is this play about? Its temporal setting is the near future and its spatial setting is the campus of the recently founded university of Camford in the environs of Glastonbury in the English county of Somerset renowned in legend as the location that Jesus once visited and the site of many episodes in the life of King Arthur. In the aftermath of the credit crunch the university is sorely in need of funds and to secure these it is set to undergo inspection by representatives of governments and organizations that can secure the much needed financial investments. The methods chosen for this year-long procedure include the use of surveillance cameras and video recordings, much to the consternation of most students and some faculty members. So much for the background. the two chief male protagonists are employed in the Department of English, namely Dr. Peter Panhurst and Dr. Dominic Crawley, one might say the villain of the piece. They are rivals not only professionally but for the affections of Mary Beckford, the daughter of the Head of the English department The academic year is to culminate in the summer semester when the committee supervising the inspection of the university will reach its decision on whether to fund the university's needs. At this time the students will hold ""an academy of the woods, described by Crawley " as a Woodstock-like hippie rave-up." It is also at this juncture Mary that discovers who she really wants as her life partner. N.B: The development of the play is in midstream.
