GLOBAL MARKET FOR ADVANCED MATERIALS AND DEVICES FOR RENEWABLE-ENERGY SYSTEMS TO REACH $31.

7 BILLION IN 2016 Wellesley, Mass. In a recent release, ADVANCED MATERIALS AND DEVICES FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY: GLOBAL MARKETS (EGY053C) from BCC Research (www.bccresearch.com), the global market for renewable-energy devices and advanced materials was valued at nearly $22.3 billion for 2011. That number is projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.4% between 2011 and 2016, reaching nearly $31.8 billion in 2016. The global market for advanced materials and devices for renewable-energy systems can be broken down into four segments solar energy, wind energy, small hydro and ocean energy, and geothermal energy. The solar energy segment was valued at nearly $18.3 billion in 2011 and is expected to increase at a CAGR of 3.4% to reach $21.6 billion in 2016. The wind energy segment, worth $3.9 billion in 2011, should be worth nearly $9.1 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 18.3%. The segment made up small hydro and ocean energy was valued at $28.9 million in 2011 and, after increasing at a 102% CAGR, should be worth $972.7 million in 2016. The geothermal energy segment, worth $31.4 million in 2011, should be worth $101 million in 2016, a CAGR of 26.3%. Renewable energy can be defined as energy derived from non-fossil fuel sources that can be replenished in the short term by natural phenomena. This definition includes energy generated from wind, solar radiation, geothermal heat, biomass, and water (hydropower and oceanic). The overall goal of this study is to identify and quantify the market for advanced material and device technologies used in renewable-energy systems. Specific objectives include the following: Identifying advanced materials and devices that are used in renewable-energy systems, analyzing and predicting trends in the most likely application(s) for each of these materials and devices, pinpointing new materials and devices that are likely to be introduced within the next five years, and drawing attention to manufacturers of renewable-energy systems that are most likely to succeed over the forecast period. This report is intended especially for developers and vendors of advanced materials and devices that target the renewable-energy systems market. It should also be useful to vendors of renewable-energy systems interested in understanding where the market is headed with respect to advanced enabling technologies. Others who will find the reports findings and conclusions

informative include investors; members of renewable-energy trade, professional, and advocacy organizations; and officials of government agencies and multinational organizations responsible for optimizing energy consumption. In addition to EGY053C BCC also has published EGY091A, EGY092A, EGY093A and EGY094A. These reports cover advanced materials and renewable energy technologies with focuses, respectively, on the U.S., Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, and the rest of the world.
