WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT WASTEWATER AND BIOSOLIDS SURVEY

Survey Details:

Survey Opened on Friday 14th November

Survey Closed on Thursday 20th November

Survey Respondents: 81 commenced the survey, 27 people completed the survey (96.3%)

Distribution Method: Friends, family and colleagues

RESPONSE SUMMARY
SECTION ONE: WASTEWATER
1. Organic matter recycled from Sewage, especially for use in agriculture.
2. Fuel and fertiliser for gardens etc.
3. Proteins treated in sewerage to make them safe to use in biological applications such as fertilizers.
4. Human waste (both number 1 and number 2)
5. Basically the "sludge" left over from the water treatment process.
6. Human waste, anything biodegradable that is contained in water.
7. The Solid waste that is left over from the wastewater treatment process
8. Poo!
9. Biodegradable solids from waste that can be harnessed for other uses eg plastics
10. I thought they were organic solid materials (in this case non-liquid human product) - eg "poo". Ie. products that can
be readily decomposed as opposed to metals and plastics, etc
11. Well not sure really but only had yes and no answer and wanted to guess: the treated solid remains following waste
H20 treatment.
12. What remains after water is removed from wastewater.
13. The solid produced from the treatment of biological waste for use on gardens etc
14. It's a solid product left after the treatment of sewerage
15. Product after the waste has been treated. Used for various means as stated above.
16. Very vaguely!!! Pollutants and solids extracted from wastewater
17. Waste solids treated and made useable as fertiliser
18. Waste solids treated and made useable as fertiliser
19. The solid part removed from wastewater
20. Waste generated from water treatment
21. Treated waste products
22. Fertiliser
23. Sludge issue from secondary and tertiary treatment n a wastewater treatment plant
SECTION TWO: BISOLIDS

1. We object to countries such as China using human waste as fertisiliser for health reasons so I don't believe we should
do it here
2. May stink
3. But no drinking water please!
4. Only concern is that it is done properly with no risk to the environment and society.
5. Need guarantee that the treatment does prevent disease, as there are enough problems with food now without further
contaminations.
6. Because humans consume this food
7. Toxicity, greenhouse gas emissions?
1. Is there any harmful side effects to us in the long-term usage in agriculture?
2. Is all of the waste can be created to biosolids? if not what happened to the rest of it?
3. Where are they created, e.g. where specifically in Perth?
4. No.
5. Nothing
6. What are they exactly?
7. What are the future plans for, and how it will impact the state
8. Safety and sanitation standards
9. Everything about everything
10. Is there a net energy saving in it's production compared to equivalent fertiliser?
11. Self-management at home (eg. management of so-called black water)
12. Are they completely safe to use
13. Can they be used for growing vegetables etc for human consumption?
14. Areas of current use and process to eliminate potential contamination
15. That it is done effectively?
16. Nil
17. Not enough obviously!
18. The thought of using it for showering or washing is a bit icky.
19. More public awareness on how they are treated to become "safe" - what sort of tests are done, and what the process is
when the tests indicate that the biosolid isn't "safe".
20. Better ways to recycle.
21. Nothing more
22. Nil
23. Obviously I need to know a lot more in general! More specifically, where they are used?
24. Where they are used
25. Are biosolids created when producing potable water?
26. What the hell are they, I can only guess but it would be nice not to guess. Perhaps I should Google it.
