AL ASR

Sura Al-Asr Sura Al-Asr is one of the shortest Suras of Quraan and one of its earliest ones too. Its a Makki Sura that belongs to initial era after declration of Nubbua by Holy Prophet (SAW). Most Suras of that time were short and contained simple parameters and instructions rather than detailed instructions about following the code of Islam. Owing to the valuable contents of the Sura in a very short text, it is also referred as the Summary of Quraan. Translation/ Transliteration

Wa Tawwasau Bil Haqq-e Tawwasau means doing Wassihat. Wassiat means advice and its a special form of advice as compared to Nassiat. While Nassiat also means advice, Wassiat means passing on a valueable advice, a word of wisdom, a word of advice that a summary of long experienced facts of life. For the same reason, this word is also used for the will that one leaves for his/her followers, successors and family members. Its like passing on ones valuables for benefit of people to follow. Bil Haqq means with Haqq And Haqq means True as well as Truth.

The literary meanings of Haqq are far beyond truth that we normally quote in the sense of an opposite of lie. It means Real or Reality as against perceptions. Al-Haqq means absolute reality, absolute truth. And in this meaning it is referred to Almighty Allah and sometimes to His Book, The Quraan. Haqq also means the right thing. In this sense it refers to following the right path that leads a person to his/her Creator. With this, Tawwasau Bil Haqq-e Truth/Reality/Quraan/The Right Path. means Advice with

So it calls for passing truthful advice to others, asking them to follow the right path. Taking a lead from Quraan when spreading the good deeds. Asking people to follow the way of Allah and doing all that with complete honesty and truthfulness not merely by words but by the core of heart.

Save those who have faith and do righteous deeds, and counsel each other to hold on to truth and counsel each other to be steadfast.

Ayaat related to HAQ: The Surah mentions, the following quality a man must have in order to be saved from loss. That the people who believe and do good deeds must exhort one another to truth this means that in the first place, a believing and righteous people should not live as individuals but should create a believing and righteous society by their combination. Second, that every individual of this society must feel his responsibility not to let the society become degenerate. Thus, all its members are duty bound to exhort one another to truth Truth is the antonym of falsehood, and generally it is used in, two meanings: (1) A correct and right thing which is in accordance with justice and truth, whether it relates to belief and faith or to mundane affairs; and (2) the right which is obligatory on tan to render, whether it is the right of God,

the right of man, or the right of one's own self. Thus, to exhort one another to truth means that the society of the believers should not be so insensitive that falsehood may thrive and things against justice and truth are done in it, and the people be watching everything indifferently. On the contrary, it should be a living, sensitive society so that whenever and wherever falsehood appears, the upholders of the Truth should rise up against it, and no member of the society rest content with only himself adhering to truth, righteousness, justice and rendering the rights of others, but should exhort others also to adopt the same way of life. This is the spirit that can ensure security of a society against moral degeneration and decay. If a society becomes devoid of this spirit, it cannot remain secure from loss, and eventually even those people also are affected by the loss, which might in their own way be adhering to the truth, but were insensitive to violation of the truth in their society. The same has been stated in Al-Ma'idah, thus: "Those who adopted the way of disbelief among the children of Israel were cursed by the tongue of David and of Jesus, son of Mary, because they had grown rebellious and become transgressors: they would not forbid one another to do the wrong deeds they committed. (w. 78-79). Then the same idea has been expressed in Al-A`raf, thus: "When the children of Israel totally forgot the teachings (of observing the Sabbath), we seized with a severe scourge all those who were transgressors, and We saved those who used to forbid evil" (v. 165); And in Surah Al-Anfal, thus: "And guard against that mischief which will not bring punishment in particular to the mischief-makers alone from among you." (v. 25) That is why to enjoin what is good and to forbid what is evil, has been enjoined on the Muslim community as a duty (Al-`Imran 104) and the community which performs this duty has been declared to be the best community (Al-`Imran: 110). The Practical Implications of HAQ in HRM: At the stage of twasi-bil-haqq (mutual exhortation to Truth), it is perhaps impossible for Muslims in their individual capacities to stand up to the opposition mounted against them by the

Evil forces. It is therefore, imperative, that they unite into a well-organized group. This is the reason why the Quran has given the injunctions regarding Haqq in the Arabic grammatical form of tafauI. that is to say, in the verse Wa twaso biI-Haqqe there is an implicit reference to the necessity of a united and organized group life for Muslims. These virtues we must exercise both for ourselves and in relation to others. We must set an example for others and take the excellence of others as an example for ourselves, so that we may not fall short of what is due from us. In this way we strengthen each other and bind our mutual relations closer in common service to God.
