IMPORTANCE OF PRACTISING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE Practising a healthy lifestyle means having routines to improve the quality of our health and to abstain from harmful habits which affect our well-being. First and foremost, what do we need to do, to maintain a healthy lifestyle? There are few points to consider when we talk about a healthy lifestyle. The points are eating a balanced diet, adequate rest, personal hygiene, exercise and to abstain from the misuse of substances. Lets look at eating a balanced diet. You are what you eat. It is so true. A healthy body can fight any disease better than an unhealthy body. To eat a balanced diet we can always refer to the food pyramid. Eat a variety of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. They are nutritious food and we can eat as much as we like. They provide us vitamins, minerals and fibres which are essential for health. Next, we need to take fish, poultry, lean meat, beans, eggs, and nuts as the source of protein.Sweet and starchy food like rice, bread and potatoes provide us carbohydrates which give us energy. However, beware of carbohydrates and not to overtake them. Excessive carb will turn into sugar in our body. Too much sugar will result in chronic diseases. So, eat moderately. Thats the key element here. We get fats from butter, margarine, cooking oil and fat from meat. But we need to be careful not to overtake carbohydrates and fats which will make us overweight. Overweight will lead to obesity. Obesity will in turn, lead to many chronic illnesses. In addition, we need to drink plenty of water and milk. Milk provides calcium for stronger and healthier bones. To maintain a healthy lifestyle we need to have adequate rest. Sufficient rest can reduce stress, provides energy recovery and able to comfort a tired mind. Thus, we can prepare ourselves well for further activities.

We also need to practice personal hygiene. We need to bathe and change our clothing regularly.Pay attention to oral hygiene to avoid bad breath. Maintain a certain level of cleanliness to avoid contagious diseases. A clean and neat person gives an excellent impression. Exercise regularly.Exercise helps to increase our heart rate and make the blood flow better. In addition, the muscles are toned up and made stronger. All parts of the body benefit from exercise. So,we should make it a point to exercise. Abstain from the misuse of substances.Do not take drugs, drink alcohol or sniff glue.Drugs do nothing but destroy us. Teenagers are most likely to be involved in the misuse of substances. Teenagers are also the pillars of our country. We must help safeguard them from any involvement with drugs or alcohol. So,why is it so important to practise a healthy lifestyle?Well, implementing healthy lifestyle benefit us physically and mentally as well. When we are fit as a fiddle we can do many wonderful things. It also has major positive effects on all other aspects of our lives. Practising a healthy lifestyle can eliminate and reduce chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and other obesity related diseases.By watching what we eat, eating a balanced diet, exercising, having adequate rest, drinking plenty of water and not misusing substances,I feel we can reduce the chances of having those diseases mentioned above. We cannot live life to the fullest or enjoy life or even perform well in work place if we are not healthy. So,practising a healthy lifestyle is definitely important. When we live a healthy lifestyle,we can also reduce depression and other mental illnesses.Again, practising a healthy lifestyle becomes the crucial role here.Eating a balance diet, sufficient rest, practising personal hygiene, abstain from harmful substances and always think positively will put away stress and depression. If we are stressed, depressed or mentally ill we cannot contribute anything to our family, community and even our country. We will become a burden instead. Therefore,it is so vital that we practise a healthy lifestyle.Maintain a positive thinking, always look at the bright side of things, and avoid suspicion, jealousy, deceitfulness, dishonest and greed. There is an English saying goes, A good man can make a bad system work but, a bad man cannot make a good system work.

Another importance of practising a healthy lifestyle is that we increase our energy level. When we are full of energy, we can work more efficiently,be it at home or work place. This will result in a better performance in the working place and in return, earn us great respect and credibility. By improving the quality of our health, we can live longer. Each and every one of us wants to live long but, long live with unhealthy body will burden people around us. We must age gracefully. Then we have the opportunity to do many wonderful things and to enjoy life more abundantly. Living a healthy lifestyle allows us to develop a more positive life. When we feel happier and healthier we begin feeling better about ourselves as our self-esteem and confidence and we relate better with others. People are naturally drawn to individuals who have are positive radiance. In a nutshell, we cannot neglect the importance of a healthy lifestyle.Healthy living goes far beyond just improving our daily routine.Changing old habits does take some hard work and commitment as the saying goes, old habits die hard but it is certainly well worth it. Health is gold. If we are not healthy, we cannot do much with our money. SO, PRACTISING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE IS THE KEY TO MEANINGFUL LIFE.
