Essay 5
Fashion has Hip hop ( kind’ve weak, could be stronger. Ex. Louis
Vuitton Don and other Hip Hop influences in Fashion)
It all started with parachute pants. Over the generations, fashion has developed
progressively with the help of many influences. What has inspired fashion to become the way it
is? Hip Hop has always been a crucial/important part/aspect of fashion. Hip Hop was born
in the mid 70’s (…insert snippet about Hip Hop here. ) Hip Hop wasn’t just about the parachute
pants, it was about how wore them and how you stood out. Hip Hop was about risk, attitude, and
not being afraid to be different. Music icons of the Hip Hop industry have a distinctive, unique
fashion sense that influence urban wear. Many music hip-hop influences such as Will Smith, also
known as the The Fresh Prince, Kanye West, Pharrell, and countless others have created fashion
standards by just wearing the clothes they own or creating their own clothing lines to inspire
Hip Hop artists were able to influence the public by appearing in medias such as music
videos, hip hop magazines, talk shows, with their latest clothing and fashion statement. Not only
did music videos show viewers the latest fashions what their favorite artists were wearing, hip
hop magazines and talk shows (interviews) did as well. On talk shows and music videos, you
never see these artists wearing suits but wearing rather hip hop-influenced clothing.
The Fresh Prince, also known as Will Smith, was one of the first Hip Hop inspirations to
fashion. The rapper came out of the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in his funky color baggy
pants and sweatshirts. As The Fresh Prince became more popular for his hip hop music, people
started to see The Fresh Prince to be a great music icon and a fashion statement. The Fresh
prince influenced people with his style of the new Hip Hop. The people who were influenced by
him, started dressing like him. This was the start of jewelry, sunglasses, baggy pants, tall graphic
shirts and colorful shoes. However, this was only the start of Hip Hop and fashion. What it is
Every part of clothing is very important to the Hip Hop fashion. One of the most
important fashion accessories of Hip Hop urban wear is the shoes. Most Hip Hop artists in the
past and present have always had rare classics or original shoes or also known as kicks. Many
artists began to write in their lyrics about their shoes because they took pride in their kicks.
(MAYBE YOU CAN INSERT A SMALL LYRIC QUOTE ABOUT SHOES) One of the most
famous sneaker companies in history is Nike. Many artists also started to make their own brands
from Nike. For example, Kanye West invented “Air Yeezys” which was also formally known as
Jordan III. (If you want, you could put another example of a Hip Hop artist making shoes ) It
wasn’t just the shoes that artists influenced society with. Many artists also influenced many
viewers with different accessories. Sunglasses became really popular after hip hop artists began
to wear them in the artists’ music videos. (WHAT ABOUT BLING BLING? GRILLS? HOES?
BITCHES? LOL JK !)
Fashion wouldn’t be what it is today without Hip Hop. Hip Hop artists such as Kanye
West, is one of the greatest influences of fashion. Kanye West is famous for his fashion
statement of shutter shades. He wore them once in his music video of his song, Stronger, thus
influencing many of his fans to wear them. Suddenly, shutter shades became a symbol of Kanye
West. He even has a mascot wearing a pair of shutter shades. Before the music video was
released, no one had even seen a pair of shutter shades even though they were first invented in
the 80’s. After the music video was released, shutter shades could be found from malls in rich
that artists of the hip hop market grow pride in their clothing through music. You can always hear
in artists’ lyrics describing the brand of clothing they are wearing. For example in Kanye West’s
single hit, Stronger, he mentions three of the high marketing fashion stores.
"Awesome, the Christian in Christian Dior, Damn, they don't make 'em like this anymore,
I ask 'cause I'm not sure, Do anybody make real shit anymore? Bow in the presence of greatness
'Cause right now thou hast forsaken us. You should be honoured by my lateness, That I would
even show up to this fake shit. So go ahead, go nuts, go ape shit, Especially in my Pastelle, or my
Bape shit, Act like you can't tell who made this,New gospel, homey, Take Six, and take this,
haters. Now that don't kill me, Can only make me stronger. I need you to hurry up now 'Cause I
can't wait much longer. I know I got to be right now 'Cause I can't get much wronger. Man, I been
waitin' all night now, That's how long I've been on ya. I don't know if you got a man or not,If you
made plans or not, If God put me in your plans or not, I'm trippin', this drink got me sayin' a
lot.But I know that God put you in front of me, So how the hell could you front on me? there's a
thousand yous, there's only one of me. I'm trippin', I'm caught up in the moment, right 'Cause it's
"Awesome, the Christian in Christian Dior, Damn, they don't make 'em like this anymore… Especially in
Kanye West mentions about Christian Dior, Bape, and Louis Vuitton. All of these
companies are high market (coveted? Popular? Or you could just say high fashion. I don’t like
the ‘market’) fashion stores to the Hip Hop industry. You can slowly tell that Hip Hop artists can
grow much egos over their clothing line. (??.. what? This doesn’t have to do with your thesis!) If
you have ever seen Kanye West, he always wears top market fashion clothing lines. (kind of
redundant, since you already talked about him wearing it and talking about it.) Kanye West is
infamous (infamous = bad but Louis Vuitton is good brand?) for his nickname “Louis Vuitton
Don.” By wearing the nickname Louis Vuitton Don, Kanye West expresses that he has much
pride in his clothing. I believe that artists wear expensive clothing to express power in public. (If
the paragraph after this is about using clothing to express power, you don’t need this sentence
really)
If you have noticed, many artists wear name-brand clothing. Why do artists wear clothing
of such expensive prices? I believe artists, such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, etc, wear expensive
clothing because they can show their pride and share their expression of power. Most popular hip
hop artists are very wealthy and can afford clothing lines as such as Originalfake, Burberry,
Louis Vuitton and such. I believe that artists buy expensive clothing to show power of money. In
the music industry, the stronger person has more money. I believe that artists show off their
clothing to gain more respect from artists who are not as popular as the richer artists. (BUT
HOW DOES THIS INFLUENCE THE FASHION INDUSTRY? PLEASE EDIT IT A LITTLE
BIT. MAYBE … THE STRONGER HIP HOP MUSICIAN WILL INFLUENCE MORE
PEOOLE WHO FOLLOW THEM? AND THUS, IT IS THE PEOPLE WHO HELP SHAPE
THE INDUSTRY INTO WHAT IT IS TODAY?? SOMETHING LIKE THAT IDK. ITS 4:30 I
CANT THINK LOLOL !! PLEASE DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THE POINT OF YOUR
ESSAY !!!)
Pharrell is also one of the greatest music icons out in the Hip Hop industry. Pharrell is
one of the artists out there who is succeeding well in the music industry as well as the fashion
market. Pharrell owns two different companies, billon boys club and ice cream (Capitalize the
company names !) Every time he has a photo shoot; he always advertises his clothing lines by
wearing his own clothes. Pharrell started these companies because of the influence of Nigo Bape.
Nigo Bape has been in the fashion business for fifteen years and also has been in the hip hop
business for about seven years. The connection hip hop and fashion has a stronger influence than
just hip hop and fashion itself. I know you want to talk about BAPE but you’re putting a lot of
details into your essay. The point of your essay is to talk about how HIPHOP influenced
FASHION. Before you talk about how Pharrell was influenced by BAPE, maybe you should talk
about his influence over many consumers. How his company sell GAGILLIONS of dollars by a
new method of selling clothing. He does it by making his clothing rare so it sell out fast. And
how this new method of selling in fashion was influenced directly by hip hop? …actually idk
that’s a lot of info too. I do like the direction you were going how he was influenced by a fashion
mogul . How not only does fashion influence hip hop, but hip hop influences fashion. Like it’s
mutual beneficial relationship kind of thing. Just don’t put a crazy amount of little detailing in
a) LESS IS MORE ! how sluts on tv wear less and less and now girls go out and
wear jack shit and people think it’s cool .THIS IS A BAD INFLUENCE OF
b) You talked a lot about present influences, besides will smith. What about the
old influences? Hm sorry I took out your reference of Jordans. Maybe you
d) BLING BLING (Back in the day thick yellow gold rope chains were donned by the likes of
LL Cool J and Big Daddy Kane. The more conscientious Hip Hop fan might sport an Africa
necklace adorning the red, black and green in remembrance of his brothas and sistas in
America and Africa. The 90’s came along and so did high end platinum. Sean "Puffy" Combs,
Biggy Smalls and Jay-Z made sure you knew that they were sporting platinum, the most
expensive of all precious metals. Today, platinum and white gold are highly popular along with
diamonds, otherwise known as ice) <<I GOT FROM AN ARTICLE. ICE ICE BABYYYYY
PLEASE REVISE THIS ESSAY TO SOUND MORE LIKE YOU! I know I changed a lot of
sentence structure, but I did it so we’d be able to get all the main ideas across and not be really jumbled.
You can take stuff out, change it, put stuff in, but just make sure the main idea comes across !!
I hope you finish your essay in time baby! I hope I helped you a lot ): I can’t wait to see you on
Friday! (aka tomorrow!) You don’t really owe me anything (besides a nice massage). I did it because I love
