All of Us - #539
Fr. Larry On behalf of the Tri-Parish Pastors, Fr. Kurt Boras, (the pastor of St. Patrick parish), Fr. Brian Ardagh, (the pastor of St. Alphonsus parish) and myself, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Kevin ODonnell for being the instrumentalist and leader of song at our 5:00 PM Tri-Parish liturgy on Sunday evenings for the past several years. Kevin has recently informed us that he wishes to move on from his commitment for personal reasons including finishing his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. Kevins last day at our 5:00 PM Sunday liturgy is Palm Sunday, April 1st. St. Cyril parishioner, Steven Grand, a young musician who has filled in for Kevin when he could not be present for the Mass, has graciously accepted the offer from the Tri-Parish Pastors to be the new leader of song for our Sunday night liturgy. He will formally begin in this capacity on Sunday, April 15th. (Please note that there is no 5:00 PM Sunday Mass at St. Patricks on Easter Sunday evening.) We, as the Lemont Pastors, are grateful for Kevin ODonnells leadership, hard work, faithfulness and dedication over the years to our Sunday night liturgy. We wish him well in all his future endeavors. Something Good to Keep In Mind This is a good time and place to remind our St. Cyrils parishioners that St. Patricks Parish hosts the 5:00 PM Sunday Mass for the whole Lemont Catholic community. Several priests are invited from different parishes to come and celebrate the Mass. For example, Fr. Marcin just celebrated the Mass last weekend and I will celebrate the 5:00 PM Mass next weekend on Palm Sunday. I enjoy celebrating the 5:00 PM Mass. I usually see about 30 to sometimes 50 of our St. Cyrils parishioners in attendance. There are often many young families who come to this Mass after a long weekend of commitments and traveling. Jokingly, some people refer to it as your last chance for Mass on Sundays. It is really a blessing and a convenience to have the Mass available on the weekend at this late hour. This is the time of year when you will notice that Mass attendance shifts from one Mass to another. For instance, the Mass attendance at the 5:00 PM Sunday Mass at St. Patricks usually increases in the spring and summer months as folks get caught up with outside
events or family obligations on a beautiful and warm Saturday evening or Sunday morning. Also note that there is an agreement among the three parishes that any parish envelopes that are placed in the collection at the 5:00 PM Mass will be forwarded the next day to their perspective parishes so that a familys contributions can be deposited and recorded with the parish they are registered with. It is a nice working agreement among us. Holy Week Is Coming Today we celebrate the 5th Sunday in Lent. Next Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week with our celebration of Palm Sunday. Todays bulletin contains all the necessary information about our services for Holy Week. Please make every effort to attend these beautiful liturgies. Please take note also of the specific times when priests will be available to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The first reading today reminds us of how much God loves us and wants to be a part of our lives. We hear the comforting and encouraging words written in the Book of Jeremiah. The Lord says, I will be their God, and they shall be my people. I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sin no more. The good news is that God is always there, waiting for us. May we know Gods forgiveness and mercy through the hope and joy offered in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Our Faith, Our Gift, Our Home Last Sunday I spoke at all the Masses about the preparation we are taking as we enter into the second phase of our capital campaign this June. This Sunday we extend a follow-up invitation to those families who have not done so yet, to consider making a commitment to the capital campaign. Our goal is to have 100% response from our registered families. Thank you to all who have already made a commitment. Always Growing and Learning Thank you to all who participated in the Ministerial Evaluation for Fr. Marcin. He received his results from his evaluation and had the opportunity to review the feedback with myself, our Pastoral Staff and representatives of the Archdiocese of Chicago. His evaluation was positive and affirming. Fr. Marcin, in response to his evaluation, lists in todays bulletin his areas of strength, as well as areas for

future improvement. Thank you to those who were involved in the process. Fr. Marcin has been at St. Cyrils for the past four years. I believe it has been a good assignment for him, and for us. Obviously the priest he is today is not the priest he was when he was just newly ordained. He has had a wealth of learning experiences. In a parish, a young priest learns things first-hand that can never be taught in a seminary classroom. Its similar to first-time parents with a newborn baby. Most days you just have to deal with what comes your way and place your trust in God that you are doing the right thing. Priesthood, like marriage, is a vocation. You have to work on it. You have to be committed to giving it your time, energy and attention, otherwise it falls apart. Theres no red autopilot button that you can push for these vocations and then sit back and take a nice long snooze. The best priests and best married couples are the ones who are open to new ways to deepen the relationships in their lives. They are the ones who listen well to how God is calling them, and they are not afraid to keep growing. When you stop growing, you die. Welcome Fr. Rich and Fr. Larry This weekend we welcome to St. Cyrils, two friends of mine from the Archdiocese of Chicago. Fr. Rich Hynes is Director for the Office of Evangelization, Catechesis and Worship, and Fr. Larry Gorski is a Clinical Psychologist. We thank them for taking the time to help us out with our sacramental needs during this busy season of Lent.

PADS is an acronym for Public Action to Deliver Shelter. It is a series of facilities, mostly churches, which serve as a safe haven one night per week for homeless men, women and children. St. Lukes Orthodox Church is the Monday night shelter we support. The churches in Lemont cover all the needs on the first Monday of each month, October through April. But St. Lukes is finding it more and more difficult to find people to cover the other Mondays during the month. If you could give only one shift from now until the end of April, it would be a big help to St. Lukes. If you are interested, call me at 630.257.2414 or email at ddabneyj@st-als.org and I will put you in touch with the proper people. Thanks so much.

Dear Parishioners, Last year I mentioned that I was participating in a review of my Priestly Ministry which is conducted by the Archdiocesan Office of Ministerial Evaluation. This is a process to evaluate and improve my work as a priest. Parishioners at-large, the pastoral staff and parish leaders were asked to be part of the review team. I thank all those who returned their candid responses to the survey. Overall, the comments were strongly affirming and grateful for my ministry in SS. Cyril & Methodius parish. The comments also suggested areas for further development. After the data was gathered and collated, I met with a priest colleague who reviewed the data with me. Your responses and these meetings have given me solid material to pray over and help form a Development Plan and set goals for the future. This is a summary of that feedback under the headings of Areas of Strength, Recommendations and Goals. Areas of strength: i Nurtures his spiritual life i Presides at sacramental celebrations with reverence and sensitivity i Demonstrates a faithful understanding of Church doctrine, moral teaching and Church history Principal recommendations for growth: Needs to be more active in parish school and Religious Education program i Has to provide for the catechetical formation of all adults, teens and children i Be more involved in civic and community projects
