Assessment at HPS

all students have ongoing assessment in reading, writing

and maths against the New Zealand Curriculum and National Standards termly goal sheets in reading, writing and maths keep parents informed of progress and achievement against the New Zealand Curriculum and National Standards google docs, home learning and my portfolio (when up and running) will inform parents in real time about learning and achievement bi-annual learning pathways conversations take the place of traditional parent interviews narrative assessments for other curriculum areas will be shared with parents throughout the year - these are observations of learning and behaviours which demonstrate your childs achievement across the curriculum and will include the key competencies

Monday, 12 March 12

Key Competencies
The New Zealand Curriculum identifies five key competencies:

thinking using language, symbols, and texts managing self relating to others participating and contributing

People use these competencies to live, learn, work, and contribute as active members of their communities. More complex than skills, the competencies draw also on knowledge, attitudes, and values in ways that lead to action. They are not separate or stand-alone. They are the key to learning in every learning area. One of the ways we have chosen to acknowledge our students development in the key competencies is through our assembly certificates. For each assembly each studio has a certificate for the five key competencies to present to their students. These certificates are presented for a range of reasons across academic, social, sporting and cultural fields.
