Every year, more countries, more young environmental envoys

Since the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy program started in 1995, some 11,200 young people have applied for a place in the program and around 500 have been invited to visit Germany. In Indonesia, since the program started in 2004, more than 1,081 young college/university students have applied. 112 have become Bayer Young Environmental Envoys and 30 have been given a chance to visit Germany. The Bayer Young Environmental Envoys of Indonesia have the chance to participate in an Eco-Camp, which takes them to places of environmental significance like Taman Nasional Tangkuban Perahu, Taman Nasional Gede Pangrango, Kampung Pending Sukabumi, Lembur Pancawati Sukabumi, and Kawasan Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun Salak. All Bayer Young Environmental Envoys become members of the BYEE Club, an alumni organization of past and present young envoys. They use networking and synergy techniques to further environmental conservation by way of advocacy and concrete works for the benefit of the community to which they belong.

The top two envoys will join youth delegates from 18 other countries around the world on a weeklong all-expense paid trip to Germany on November 4 - 9, 2012. It will be an opportunity to gain new insights on the broad spectrum of environmental protection measures employed by industry, municipalities, and the state environmental authorities in Germany. BYEE PROGRAM NOW ON ITS 9th YEAR IN INDONESIA The Bayer Young Environmental Envoy (BYEE) is a global environmental education program for the youth organized by Bayer and the United Nations Environment Programme with the aim of developing young environmental leaders and boosting the level of environmental awareness among the youth. In 2004, Bayer signed a formal agreement with UNEP on environmental schemes for young people and became the first private-sector company to work with UNEP. Building on their many years of cooperation in the region, the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy (BYEE) program was conceptualized where youths from four continents visit Germany to learn about forms of environmental protection. The program was first launched in Thailand in 1995. Following the success of the program, Bayer expanded it to include participants from 19 countries around the world. BAYER AND UNEP: PARTNERS FOR YOUTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT In 1901, Bayer set up a Wastewater Commission at its production plants in Germany and established a long history of environmental protection well before the term became a catchphrase. The tradition continues to this day with Bayer as a pioneering leader in sustainability performance. Bayer has been included in the most important sustainability index, the Dow Jones Sustainability World (DJSI World), for 2008/2009 for the tenth consecutive period, based on a Corporate Sustainability Assessment by the well-known Swiss rating agency SAM Research. In recognition of the companys climate protection achievements, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) once again rated Bayer one of the leading companies worldwide in climate protection in 2008. It is the only European chemical and pharmaceutical company to be listed for the fourth time in a row in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index that ranks the worlds 500 largest listed companies on the basis of an assessment by independent experts. Today, Bayer is a global enterprise with core competencies in the fields of health care, nutrition and high-tech materials. Bayer is represented around the world by 350 companies on 5 continents. Its global headquarters are in Leverkusen, Germany. UNEP was established in 1972 as the voice for the environment within the United Nations system. UNEP works with many partners, including United Nations entities, international organizations, national governments, non-government organizations, the private sector and civil society.
