A circular specimen, mounted in a specimen holder and subjected to a defined load, is rubbed against an abrasive medium (standard wool fabric) in a translational movement tracing a Lissajous figure, the specimen holder being additionally freely rotatable around its own axis perpendicular to the plane of the specimen. We use James Heals Martindale abrasion machines, calibrated by the manufacturer, they also supply the standard consumable items used in the test. The normal end point of the test is when two threads are broken or in the case of pile fabrics when the pile has completely worn off. The inspection interval is dependent on the end point of the fabric and is usually every 1,000 up to 5,000 rubs, every 2,000 between 5,000 & 20,000 every 5,000 between 20,000& 40,000 and every 10,000 above 40,000.

A circular fabric specimen is held concentrically between smaller horizontal disc and an annular ring of fabric is allowed to drape into graceful folds around the lower supporting disc. The outline of shadow is traced on paper and then its mass is determined. Initially, the weight of paper of 15 cm dia is determined and the drape co-efficient is calculated.

The drape test can be calculated from the projection of a rather large, freely sagging circle fabricsurface.

A fabric, is placed on the sample holder which has a larger diameter, then the sample holder, the edge of the fabric sags due to its own weight. The drape of a fabric that sags due to its own weight can result in different shapes . A fabric can be considered as fully stiff if a sample with a radius of R2 is placed on a sample holder with a radius of R1 and its projection is equal with circle that has the radius of R2.

Organic cotton There are many benefits to organic baby clothing, and one of the main benefits is the softness of the fabric. This is because organic cotton tends to have longer fibers and creates less friction. Babies' skin can be very sensitive, and softer fabrics will irritate their skin less.

A circular specimen is placed on the top of the tester, between two smaller horizontally mounted metal discs. The fabric is allowed to drape under its own weight. With the help of a light and a parabolic mirror underneath the specimen, the drape image of the fabric is reflected on to the paper ring. After tracing the drape image, the paper ring is cut to separate the shadowed and non-shadowed area. The drape coefficient is then calculated - the shadow of the specimen is expressed as a percentage of the whole paper ring.
