Interactions with other patient drugs, OTC or herbal Lab value alterations caused by medicine
medicines (ask patient specifically) May cause ↑ serum AST, ALT, and alkaline phosphatase,
especially when plasma concentrations exceed 25 mg/100 ml.
May alter results of serum uric acid, urine vanillylmandelic acid
(VMA), protirelin-induced thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), urine
hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) determinations, and
radionuclide thyroid imaging. May cause ↓ serum potassium and
cholesterol concentrations.
Be sure to teach the patient the following about this
medication
Advise patients receiving aspirin prophylacticallyto take only
prescribed dose. Increasing the dose has not been found to
provide additional benefits. Instruct patient to take salicylates with
a full glass of water and to remain in an upright position for 15-30
min after administration.
