Q.1. A 50-kVA, 4,400/220-V transformer has R1 = 3.45 , R2 = 0.009 . The values of reactances are X1 = 5.2 and X2 = 0.015 . Calculate for the transformer (i) equivalent resistance as referred to primary (ii) equivalent resistance as referred to secondary (iii) equivalent reactance as referred to both primary and secondary (iv) equivalent impedance as referred to both primary and secondary (v) total Cu losses. Q.2. A 230/460-V transformer has a primary resistance of 0.2 and reactance of 0.5 and the corresponding values for the secondary are 0.75 and 1.8 respectively. Find the secondary terminal voltage when supplying 10 A at 0.8 p.f. lagging. Q.3. A 5 kVA 200/1000 V, 50 Hz, single-phase transformer gave the following test results : O.C. Test (L.V. Side): 2000 V, 1.2 A, 90 W S.C. Test (H.V. Side): 50 V, 5A, 110 W (i) Calculate the parameters of the equivalent circuit referred to the L.V. side. (ii) Calculate the output secondary voltage when delivering 3 kW at 0.8 p.f. lagging, the input primary voltage being 200 V. Find the percentage regulation also. Q.4. Obtain the equivalent circuit of a 200/400-V, 50-Hz, 1-phase transformer from the following test data: O.C test: 200 V, 0.7 A, 70 W on L.V. side S.C. test: 15 V, 10 A, 85 W on H.V. side Calculate the secondary voltage when delivering 5 kW at 0.8 p.f. lagging, the primary voltage being 200V. Q.5. The efficiency of a 1000-kVA, 110/220 V, 50-Hz, single-phase transformer, is 98.5 % at half full-load at 0.8 p.f. leading and 98.8 % at full-load unity p.f. Determine (i) iron loss (ii) full-load copper loss and (iii) maximum efficiency at unity p.f. Q.6. A-100 kVA transformer has 400 turns on the primary and 80 turns on the secondary. The primary and secondary resistances are 0.3 and 0.01 respectively and the corresponding leakage reactances are 1.1 and 0.035 respectively. The supply voltage is 2200 V. Calculate (i) equivalent impedance referred to primary and (ii) the voltage regulation and the secondary terminal voltage for full load having a power factor of 0.8 leading. Q.8. Resistances and Leakage reactance of 10 kVA, 50 Hz, 2300/230 V single phase distribution transformer are r1 = 3.96 ohms, r2 = 0.0396 ohms, x1 = 15.8 ohms, x2 = 0.158 ohm. Subscript 1 refers to HV and 2 to LV winding (a) transformer delivers rated kVA at 0.8 p.f. Lagging to a load on the L.V. side. Find the H.V. side voltage necessary to maintain 230 V across Load terminals. Also find percentage voltage regulation. (b) Find the power-factor of the rated load current at which the voltage regulation will be zero, hence find the H.V. side voltage.
