THE HOLY WEEK OF THE NEW CREATION We are entering the Holiest Week of the year. Holy Week is likened to the week of Creation of the world. Just as God created the world in six days and then rested, the Holy Week also recalls the week of the re-creation of the world. The first creation was put to death by the sin of the First Adam. By the sacrifice of the New Adam, the whole creation was made new. Sin and death entered in the old creation, mercy and life in the new creation, through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. THE PASCHAL TRIDUUM The most important days of the Holy Week are Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday which starts its vigil on Saturday evening. These days are not separate from one another but form a continuous celebration, a whole story where the liturgical parts are connected to one another. Collectively, they are called Paschal or Easter Triduum. The Bible gives us an account of the source of these events that happened during the celebration of the memorial the Old Testament Feast of Passover. The blood of the unblemished lamb sprinkled on the houses of the Israelites made the angel of death pass over them and spared them from death. The Lamb of the New Covenant is Jesus Christ whose blood saved mankind from eternal death.

Good Friday Collection

Once a year, on Good Friday, Pope Benedict XVI requests our participation in the Good Friday collection. Many Christians in the Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives. Franciscans and others in the Holy Land are housing and feeding the poor, providing formation and education, maintaining shrines and parishes, and conducting pastoral ministry. Special envelopes will be available. Please be as generous as your abundance allows.
