"Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or hold back his love from me.

"
~Psalm 66:20

Our prayers, if done honestly, should be filled with wonder that God has ever
answered them. There may be some who think their prayers are worthy of acceptance
(like the Pharisees did), but the true Christian weeps over his prayers, and if he
could retrace his steps to all the prayers he has said he would desire to pray
more earnestly.

To be honest, everyone has had those cold prayers that seem like you're just
talking to the ceiling. When we pray, we should be wrestling as Jacob did, but
instead we pray faintly instead of that humble cry, "I will not let you go unless
you bless me." Yet, God still hears our cold prayers and also answers them! Think
how infrequent our prayers are sometimes unless we are in trouble, and then we
pray like never before. But when deliverance has come, where do all our prayers
go? Why do they go to being infrequent again?

And at those times we ceased to pray at all, God has not ceased to bless. When we
neglect prayer, God hasn't deserted us. But prayer is a necessity! What a God we
serve to hear the prayers of us who come to Him with our wants, but neglect Him
when we have received His blessings and mercy; of us who approach Him when we are
forced to come, but who almost forget to talk to Him when blessings and mercies
are full and when sorrows are low. Let His gracious kindness in hearing our cold
prayers touch our hearts, so that we can then be found "praying always with all
prayer and supplication in the Spirit." Also, Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians
5:17 to "pray without ceasing."

Let's look at a quote from a Norwegian pastor.

"Prayer is something deeper than words. It is present in the soul before it has
been formulated in words. And it abides in the soul after the last words of prayer
have passed over our lips."
~O. Hallesby (Norwegian pastor)

In other words, prayer isn't a grocery list. It isn't just a matter of trying to
get things from God. Prayer is a personal conversation with our Creator that
expresses the deepest longing of our souls.

Look at what David wrote in Pslam 63:1:

"O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body
longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water."

No matter how you feel, no matter how things seem, if you are praying from a pure
heart, God will hear you and respond. Remember, He delights in your attempts to
reach out to Him in prayer!

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, please don't let us forget to pray continually to
You. And definitely don't let us neglect talking to You in the good times. We beg
and plead with you in the bad times, but be quiet in the good times. Lord, I pray
that we would approach You humbly and that we would pray with so much passion that
we have no doubt in our mind that it will come true. Lord, I ask You right now to
break us in our prayer lives. I apologize for being neglectful and infrequent in
my praying. Lord, let us have such a desire that we weep for the lost to get saved
and just be in awe of every single thing You bless us with. I pray that as we go
to bed each night, Lord, that we would think of all the blessings (big and small)
that You have given us that day. God, just help us pray without ceasing. I love
You, Lord. I pray for all these things in Your precious and holy name. AMEN!
