Dear Farid Kamil,

Thanks for your letter. It has since long time that I did not receive your letter. I was glad to read your letter. I am fine here. I was pleased to know that you have done well in your examination. I have also fared well in all the tests and quizzes and hope to get good carry marks.

You are very curious to know about the course that I took in UniKL MICET. Actually, Im taking Diploma Engineering Environment course here and there are a lot of benefits I can get through this that course. You also want to know about what is my favourite subject. Here, I like so much Analytical Chemistry subject. You might be confused right what is the subject is all about. Okay, Im telling you now.

Analytical Chemistry is actually the branch of Chemistry that deals with Separating, identifying and quantifying of relative amount of components in a sample. We can learn on how to analysis the sample, how to separating, identifying and quantifying the sample and many more. There are two types of analytical method of analysis which is qualitative method and quantitative method. Qualitative method is identification method to establish the chemical identity of species in the samples such analysis does not report the amount of substance and quantitative method is the determination of the relative amount of these species or analyte, in numeral terms.

Next, in Analytical Chemistry, the analytical methods divide into two classification which is classical methods and instrumental methods. Firstly, by classical methods the analyte was separate from sample by precipitation, extraction and distillation of the sample. Meanwhile, by instrumental methods chromatographic and

electrophoretic technique replaces distillation, extraction, precipitation and separation of complex mixtures prior to quantitative and qualitative analysis.

In instrumental method of analysis, there are two classifications of instrumental method which is spectroscopic method and separation method. In spectroscopic method, there are two methods that are molecular spectroscopy and atomic spectroscopy. spectroscopic method are based on ultraviolet, visible and infrared radiation for the identification and determination of a huge number of inorganic, organic and biochemical species. There are three instruments in spectroscopic method which is UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), and FT-IR Spectrometer. This three instruments are in the list of instruments of spectroscopic methods. Last week, I have learned on how the UV-VIS Spectrophotometer are working during Im doing the experiment.

Furthermore, in separation methods there are consist of Column Chromatography and Planar Chromatography. The main purpose of chromatography is to separate, to identify and to quantify the target sample in matrix. There are two instruments in chromatography methods which is Gas Chromatography (GC) and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). I also have learned on how to used HPLC during the experiment that I have done here.

Thats all about my favourite subject which is Analytical Chemistry in Unikl MICET and that is just one of seven subject that Ive learn here. It is very fun because people here are very friendly and the lecturers are so sporting and very helpful to student. Therefore, overall here I think it ic very fascinating and tremendously fun and I think I choose the right way to archieve my ambition to be a chemical engineer in the future.

Thats all about my campus and favourite subject and I hope I have answers all your question. Please convey my regards to your parents. Thank you again my beloved friend.

Yours sincerely, Muhamad Zulfadhli Bin Halim
