Research Analyst EPIC INPATIENT ENTERPRISE Job Description: Research Analyst will report to the Team Lead for

r Health Intelligence and Research Services within the Office of the Chief Medical Information Officer for Duke University Health System. A successful candidate will coordinate and execute a variety of complex activities involved in gathering, compiling, and analyzing data to evaluate the impact and benefits of the Epic Care Electronic Health Record. Epic EHR is expected to contribute significant financial cost savings, save lives, reduce avoidable safety incidences that harm our patients, and create a more satisfying workplace for our clinicians and staff. These benefits are expected to accrue gradually over the next several years as our facilities continue to deploy Epic EHR applications. The incumbent will aid the Health Intelligence and Research Services team to execute an enterprise EHR benefits realization strategy that includes the identification, implementation, and management of metrics and key performance indicators across quality, safety, satisfaction, and financial benefit categories. Epic assessment and certification is not required for this position. Essential Tasks/Responsibilities Execute a variety of data analysis, interpretative, and visualization tasks in support of the EHR benefits realization enterprise strategy. Participate in the Epic EHR Benefits and CMIO Implementation Science workgroups; maintain minutes, and present analytic findings. Document all analytic activities for benefits realization and maintain analysis provenance. Deploy, manage, and analyze enterprise Epic User satisfaction surveys. Collaborate with Epic report writers to ensure the most useful metrics and key performance indicators are reported, refined, and managed long term. Facilitate discussions for researchers to collaborate with Epic developers to create new clinical decision support paradigms.

Create a change management documentation pathway describing key EHR deployment dates and major updates to Epic functionality that may affect analysis goals. Maintain a dictionary of other evolving HIT implementation go-live dates, Duke Medicine acronyms, and related vocabulary unique to our clinical business. Stay abreast of EHR deployment literature and replicate analyses of peer organizations. Partner with EHR project owners to communicate metric performance and identify workflows and process changes that may improve results. Contribute to the creation of strategic documents, executive summaries, status reports, and communication materials describing the progress of the Epic project at Duke Medicine. Partner with Duke Medicine researchers seeking to study aspects of the EHR deployment to provide research coordination and maintain associated IRB study protocols. Support and author manuscripts regarding benefits realization results for publication in the peer-reviewed, scholarly literature. Use the DEDUCE researcher portal to run data queries in support of team needs. Maintain the team Sharepoint sites. Required Education/training Bachelor degree or greater in a health informatics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, a research methodology field, or similar with 1-2 years experience in research methodology. Preferred Education/training Masters of Public Health or Clinical Informatics or Analytics or PhD in clinical science or Bachelors with 3 years health informatics experience. 1-2 years experience in healthcare-oriented research. Required Skills and Experiences Excellent writing and slide development skills. High competency in authoring scholarly manuscripts, distilling large amounts of information into usable reports, and creating executiveoriented summary documents. Proficiency and proven independence with a statistical software package or programming language such as SAS, SPSS, or JMP.

High degree of competency with learning and interpreting IT systems. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team skills. Advanced user of MS Office software and familiarity with MS Visio. Familiarity with data warehousing or business intelligence concepts. Preferred Skills and Experiences Advanced knowledge of JMP or SAS. Basic knowledge of SQL. Experience with study protocols and knowledge of institutional review board policies, procedures, and regulations. One or more manuscripts published in a peer-reviewed journal in the area of health informatics. Experience in developing evaluation frameworks for the implementation of health IT systems. Experience with quality improvement frameworks such as Six Sigma, statistical process control, and performance monitoring and scorecarding. Experience deploying or using Epic software for clinical practice or revenue management. Experience with researcher query tools such as i2b2. Experience with MS Sharepoint Minimum Qualifications and Experience Work requires experience with research design and demonstrated competencies in on-line and library research. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on 1:1basis, e.g. a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience. Degrees, Licensures, Certifications Work requires a bachelor's degree in a field related to the specific position.
