INSTALLATION OF RODC READ ONLY DOMAIN CONTROLLER

* Whenever we are going to create a RODC, ensure that you are in Root Domain Controller Server. We will create RODC in main domain controller only. Here it is ibm.com

Pre Requisites: Prepare a Win2k8 pc, Domain Controller should be Installed with mcitp.com Create a user U1 in Domain Controller with Password; for creating user go to run command type dsa.msc Assign an IP to the Domain Controller PC in the following format IP Address : 10.0.0.1 Subnet Mask : 255.0.0.0 Default Gateway: ----------Preferred DNS : 10.0.0.1 Alternate DNS : --------Prepare another Win2k8 Fresh Workgroup Server for RODC Assign an IP to that workgroup PC in the following format IP Address : 10.0.0.2 Subnet Mask : 255.0.0.0 Default Gateway: ----------Preferred DNS : 10.0.0.1 Alternate DNS : ----------Check the communication by using ping Check IP Addresses given and Check NIC Card weather it is in NAT or Bridged and Check for Firewall Settings. Once the communication is established, just go ahead to install RODC

Procedure: Go to Domain Controller Machine Click Start and go to Administrative Tools Select Active Directory users and Computers Right Click on Active Directory Users and Computers It opens a window, from that window select Domain Controller from Left pane Right click on Domain Controller ibm.com

Select Pre Created Domain Controller It opens The installation Wizard Click Next and Next It shows an error for forest function level * In the general scenario RODC supports only 2003 and 2008 forest function levels only. Now you need to change the forest function level from 2000 to 2003. * In Domain Controller before installing CDC/BACKUP SERVER/NDEF features you need to install RODC otherwise it would not install.

To raise forest function level to 2003 go to D.C. and Click on Start Admin Tools Active Directory Domain and Trust Right click Select raise forest function level It opens a window, in that just click OK In the next step it will ask for Computer Name Here give the Remote Location (Nalgonda) PC/ Branch office PC/ Secondary Server PC name In the next step it will ask for Group or User to enter Give the user U1 , where you already created in D.C. Click next and next The installation wizard will finish. Up to now we just prepared RODC for installation ( Un occupied ) Now we need to install RODC Go to Workgroup/Remote location PC/Secondary PC Start Run type dcpromo The installation wizard will start soon and shows a Welcome Wizard window Click next Select Existing Forest and select Add a domain Controller to a Tree (i.e., first option ) In the next step it will ask the domain name provide ibm.com over there You will be asked for Username and Password; just provide Here you have to select forest root domain Click next and yes It shows data base files click next Create a password Click next and next Now finish.

Now the installation is finished. Now go to Primary Domain controller See there is shows the RODC status as Ready to use.
