Reflection

By carrying out some activities for our video presentation, I learned many new knowledges. We chose cognitive and language development to carry out our activities with a kindergarten child named Farra. She is 6 years old and she is very active when we were conducting some of the activities with her. The purpose of this video presention is to express ourselves in choosin and carrying out actiivities to collect da and also to use specific theory in understanding a childs development. First, we went to Tadika Taman Idaman which is located near to our campus 3 days before we carry out our activies to make an appointment with the kindergartens headmistress. They ask us to come and see them with a letter which is verified by department head of Ilmu Pendidikan and our lecturer. On 1st of March, Thursday we went to the kindergarten again to submit the form and we chosed the child. Our first activity is to name the body parts and some objects which is cognitive development. The purpose of this activity is to analyse whether the child could name those objects and body parts and finally the child managed to name all the pituress which we showed her. I was surprised when I see the child doest find it hard to name those things. From here, I summarize that as Jean Piaget mentioned in his theory, kids in the age between 2 to 7 years, are able to identify the objects and state the name of things. So, I think that his perceptions on his theory are accurate. The second activity is to identify the colours where we asked the child to identify the colours of some objects that we showed to her. She could answer us by telling us the colours of those objects correctly. We managed to analyse the cognitive development by carried out this activity with the child. From here I found that according to Jean Piagets theory, he mentioned that at this preoperational stage, kids could recognizes and remember some of the features of an object like how the child could recognizes the colours. Our last activity of cognitive development is to draw and identify the shapes. She managed to draw some of the shapes like round, triangle and square. She also managed to name those shapes. The purpose of this activity is to know whether she is able to grasp symbol. According to Jean Piagets theory, he mentioned that kids start being able to grasp symbols and also gradually develops use of language and ability to think in symbolic form. So. I found that his theory is accurate. Next we were moved to language development by carrying out some language activities with the child. Our first activity is nursery rhymes where we asked her to sing a nursery rhyme for us. She managed to sing for us a nursery rhyme which is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. According to Jean Piagets theory, whenever we teach a nursery rhyme, there are

able to remember it. He added that they don't just remember music easily, they can't get it out of their minds, it's so omnipresent. We managed to know that a child is able to remember whatever we teach them by carrying out this activity. Then, we carried out an activity the child wrote and identified alphabet. This was our second activity on language development. The purpose of this activity is to analyse whether a child could write and identify alphabets and numbers. But she managed to write all the alphabets and numbers and could read it for us. According to Jean Piagets theory, According to Jean Piaget, childrens language in preoperational stage can makes rapid progress where it shows the capacity to use language like how the child managed to say out the alphabets and numbers. So, I found that his perception on this theory is accurate. Our last activity of the day and also for language development is classifying colours where we asked her to divide colours according to the group of colours. She managed to classify those colours. From carrying out this activity, we managed to know that a child can classify whatever things by knowing their features. From here we can say that, Jean Piagets theory validate that kids can classify objects by a single feature. When we are talking about group members, I found that Im lucky in that because all my group members were very cooperative. We divided our work and everyone has finished their work on the right time. We helped each other on doing this coursework carried out our activities successfully. By carrying out these activities, I roughly get some idea about cognitive and language development in preoperational stage. On the other hand, they dont understand abstract concepts like amounts, speed, or weight. I also found that they wont accept our opinion which oppose their opinion on anything. Their thinking is still egocentric where she or he has difficulty taking the viewpoint of others. As a futue teacher, I realized that there are various types of students out there. The one who is very active, some who are very introverted, those who really cannot cop up and so on. While doing this coursework, I managed to understand on handling this type of students in their studies. Before carrying out the activities, I dont really understand some of the Piagets and Howards theory. But, once we finished our activities, I strongly agree that their theories are very accurate. I realized this when I see this child proofs me those theories. Even on doing the video presentation, i dont really very expert on it but we in a group discussed on doing the video presentation and on putting the subtitle and so on. To summarize this, I really very atisfied with my coursework because its not aonly gave me a chance t learn something new but also gave me a chance to explore such a huge knowledge on these theories, working in group and also learning some new skills. I hope this will help me in my exams and also in my

future as a teacher who is going to teach various types of students.
