Su Shi = Su Shi is one of the influential figures in Song dynasty.

He and Ou-yang Xiu defined the Northern Song literature. What made his literature very distinct from other great writer is that his work was very self conscious. He really emphasized on spontaneity atmosphere. Combined this with his new teaching of masculine, bold and extravagant heroic Abandon school of lyrics, he can be said one of the best literary figures ever lived in China. One of the key aspects about Su Shi is that he strongly opposed the New Laws proposed by Wang An- Shi, by this result Su Shi was send to prison. A record of this trial is recorded in his writing called Poetry trial on Wu Terrace and it is one of the greatest documents written in Chinese poetic interpretation. For example from Eight poems on Eastern Slope he starts off the poem with the description of his statue. Two years after arriving at Huang Zhou, I found myself in ever greater want with each passing day In the poetry he shows his emotion such as hopeless, and encounters phenomenon and tries to response to it; such as Only the solitary wayfarer, left with nothing by Heaven, with nowhere to flee Then he sets his plow aside with a sigh- when will my granary be piled high? But what makes his poetry standout more than others are in the last sentence or the conclusion where he says, I dont yet dare expect full meals, but of a bucker of water I am assured this shows his positive view of society that even though his situation is getting worse, he still has a power to joke around and have a bright side of his life, this makes the reader feel amusing as well. He also explained how authorial detachment can be accomplished by author giving his own description of the world rather than through political way of neo-Confucianism or Buddhism detachment. This provides more engagement of private life rather than public form of writing. For example in Down and out Drunk. Written on Leaving Jing-Kou shows Su-Shi experience through traveling from place to place and explaining his present moment in detail. The clouds were thin, the moon was faint I sobered up around ten oclock just as the boat was shoving off shows very peaceful scenery. As I turned to gaze on the lonely city, gray mists closed around it When I woke there was no one there to tell my secret dream again shows his feeling on hopeless and sadness. But in the last sentence My home is in the southwest, but I am always setting off to go farther on southeast this shows his determination on going forward even during his tough situation his in. All in all I think Su-Shis literature really shows his personality and he really makes it easy for us to visualize his perception of the world. Not only is his literature very easy to understand, it also shows the plot development. For example, firstly describing the setting that he is in (usually talks about nature), then starts to develop the story by explaining his thoughts and feeling by using metaphors devices. Then lastly ends by stating what he is going to do. As he stated, writing is a matter of letting the words flow rather than old traditions of writing which is described as writing is a vehicle for the way His literature shows the example of his rich lyrics, as well as his poetry and biography are both written on the same time. This means when we finished reading his poetry, we will know some of his biographic information about him (such as his accomplishment, what have happened to him etc), which makes his figure much more important to Chinese literature.
