Music in the 1960s was a reflection of the events that were going on during that time. It was a time of rebellion and counter culture. During this time teenagers and younger people were questioning everything. The British Invasion was a movement during the 60s where several bands from the United Kingdom were catching the amusement of Americans. Among these bands were the Rolling Stones, the Who, the Animals, and the Beatles. The Beatles were the most popular of the groups that were from the UK. In the band were the lead guitarist- George Harrison, the rhythm guitarist- John Lennon, the bass guitarist- Paul McCartney, and the drummer- Ringo Starr. The Beatles made their debut on Sunday, February 9 of 1964 on the Ed Sullivan show where they had over 73 million viewers. Bob Dylan was another great artist of the 1960s, although he was different from the Beatles. Instead of the rock n roll music like the Beatles Bob Dylan performed folk music. In the 60s Bob Dylan unofficially became the spokesperson for the counter-culture movement. He was also one of the performers at the March on Washington event and the speech by Martin Luther King Jr. The Temptations were a male vocal group during the 1960s. They were the most consistently successful commercial group of the 60s. The Temptations consisted of Otis Williams, Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin, Dennis Edwards, and Melvin Franklin.

The purpose of this mission was to perform a manned lunar landing and return safely to Earth. This mission started at the Kennedy Space Center at 8:32 a.m. EST on July 16, 1969, when a 363 foot tall Apollo 11 space vehicle was launched. The crew running this space craft consisted of three people. They were Neil A. Armstrong (Commander), Michael Collins (Command Module Pilot), and Buzz Aldrin (Lunar Module Pilot). They also had a backup crew which consisted of James A. Lovell (commander), William A. Anders (command module pilot), and Fred W. Haise (lunar module pilot). These men were part of a big mission. This crew accomplished many things from be- ing the first to land on the moon to being the first to walk on the moon. The first person to walk on the moon was Neil Armstrong, and second was Buzz Aldrin. Some science experiments done on this mission were The Soil Mechanics Investigation, The Solar Wind Composition Experiment,

The reason for the soil mechanics investigation was to study the properties of the lunar soil. The Solar Wind Composition Experiment collected samples of the solar wind for analysis on Earth. The Passive Seismic Experiment detected lunar "moonquakes" and provided information about the internal structure of the Moon. The Laser Ranging retro reflector measured very precisely the distance between the Earth and Moon. The Lunar Dust Detector studied the effects of lunar dust on the operation of the experiment package. The results of some of these experiments were either radioed to Earth by the crew or returned to Earth for laboratory analysis. These experiments helped us learn more about the moon and its surroundings.
