I am sure you will join us all in sending a big hooray and hugs to Tegan who this summer will not only be in our production of Oz but will also be carrying the Olympic flame through historic Stoke Mandeville Below is the article from the local press:

Tegan Is a 2012 Torchbearer

A SCHOOLGIRL from Iver who has been picked on for having same sex parents has been selected from thousands of candidates to carry the Olympic flame. Tegan Young-Blackman, 12, of Leacroft Road, learned this week she would be carrying the famous torch on part of its route around the UK. On Monday, July 9, she will relay the flame through Stoke Mandeville following her application last year. Her mum, Kielly Blackman, 43, said: We heard about the application last year and my partner Dawn decided to put Tegans name forward. She has gone through a lot over the years and has had some bullying because of her family situation, but she has taken it all in her stride so well and does not let it get to her.

Tegan, a member of the Iver Heath Drama Club who is appearing in Oz this summer, will be carrying an Olympic torch.

Dawn and I are so proud of her and thats why we put her name forward to carry the torch. We are thrilled she has been chosen, it will be a huge honour for her. Tegan, who was a donor inseminated baby, will join hundreds of other torch carriers as they take the flame around the country in the build up to the games. She is a pupil at the Chalfonts Community College in Chalfont St Peter, and Ms Blackman believes that she was selected because of the difficulties she has faced growing up. She said: Were really pleased for Tegan. At times it hasnt been easy for her, but she has been incredibly strong. Carrying the torch is something that she will remember for the rest of her life and something that she will be able to tell her children and grandchildren about. She is quite calm about it at the moment and she keeps telling me that she isnt worried, but Im sure that when the big day comes, the realisation of what she is going to do will hit her. We will be there with her on the day to support her and to cheer her on and take lots of pictures. And we hope to be there supporting you too :) > details on our Facebook

Onway to Oz

The play starring our children and younger teens has now been cast and is very quickly taking shape. It is set in the land visited in the film Wizard of Oz. No date has been set as yet but it will be a Wednesday in June with the possibility of maybe taking the play to a local festival.... More information will appear here and letters to the casts parents will be out soon.

We are still talking to the Royal Shakespeare Company about out involvement in the Open Stages scheme and the possibility of taking our modified abridged and accessible Hamlet on a professional stage. So the news is in... And its good. Including the proceeds from advertising and the tuck shop, and the cost of rent, new props and costumes... Robinson Crusoe made 200 profit (approx). This money will go straight onto subsidise the cost of our summer plays Hamlet and Oz and will also pay for new floorboards in our loft, new storage and racking being fitted as I type this out. Claire is so proud of you all, thank you and well done. Pictures and the programme are available via our Facebook.

UPDATE from Uxbridge Gazette:

THE trial of a hotel receptionist accused of stabbing two colleagues to death has been adjourned until July. Attila Ban, 32, is charged with the murders of Alice Adams, of Iver Heath, Bucks, and Hungarian Tibor Vass (pictured). Their bodies were discovered at a house in New Road, Harlington, on August 10 last year. Mr Ban, also from Hungary, denied the double murder charge at a hearing in January, and the trial was due to start today (Monday), but Mr Ban's defence asked for more time to prepare their case and the trial has now been adjourned until July 9. The two victims, both 20, and Mr Ban worked together at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel, in Bath Road, Hayes. Again, our thoughts and love are with fellow friends of Alice and her family.
