Political and journalism terms ... reporting facts to the public, has to have a news value, news worthy.

Proximity (the closer to audience, the bigger the news) Timliness- is it happening now, is a news tied o a timebased element. News today has to be covered now. Libel vs. defirmation untruth that is published or broadcast of a person, newspapers protection is the truth vs the other side of the libel, just spoken untruth Sue for libel- against media abuse Libel damages Libel action- to take action against someone for as I see as libel Actionable- if I think I have a case in corse that might be right and sellable Lawsuit Gag- stuck in your mouth so you can not talk. Courts can order gag orders in libel cases on people, so people can not talk about the case before the case is over. Watchdog- media in society, media watches the gornvment for excessness. Toothless watchdog- restrictions in media (like a dog that has no teeth- its harmless, no one is scared of a dog without teeth) Crackdown- to restrict freedom of the media Clampdown- restricting freedom in Press Press Freedom Freedom of the Press- is the freedom of communication and expression through vehicles including various electronic media and published materials. Political correctness- attempt to moderate the language to avoid racial, stereotyping, gender bias etc (e.g nigger) Politically correct- conforming to a belief that language and practices which could offend political sensibilities (as in matters of sex or race) should be eliminated Politically incorrect PC Speech code- what you can or cannot say Lexicon- language Media has to bring light to problems in society Politics- the campaign trail Candidate- A person running for office in an election. Election- The formal decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual to hold public office. Run for election- To campaign to stand for a political position. Stand for election- stand and ask to vote for him/her Campaign- Competition by rival political candidates and organizations for public office. Campaign trail- a series of planned events in different places taken part in or given by a politician who is trying to be elected Campaigning- to organize a series of activities to try to achieve something Run-up to the elections- the time when everything starting to roll and starting Gaffe- a mistake Politics- the campaign platform Party- a political group that has the same views, particular views
