EDTC6037-Integrating Technology into the Math, Science, and Healthful Living Curriculum was taught during Fall of 2011 by Dr. Kenneth Luterbach. The course focused on the integration of the Computer Skills curriculum into the Math, Science, and Healthful Living curricula. This integration could be accomplished through the use of basic programs, such as spreadsheet and database, or more complex programs, such as Web 2.0 tools. The final project for this course was to create a staff development project that was conducted within ones school system. I completed the staff development project with Stephanie Holmes. We were able to each complete the project at our own schools, then come back together and evaluate our presentations and the effectiveness of the staff development. We chose to conduct our staff development on the social bookmarking website Delicious (formerly known as De.li.cious). The focus of the workshop was to teach our coworkers how to create a social bookmark using Delicious, as well as, how to implement the use of Delicious into the classroom. Our text, Teaching in the Digital Age: Using the Internet to increase student engagement and Understanding by K. Nelson helped me focus in on the purposeful integration of computer skills into the regular classroom. The staff development on Delicious was a great example of the use of Internet increasing student engagement. Social bookmarking is a powerful tool that can greatly enhance our classroom instruction, if it is used correctly by analyzing each site for validity and reliability.

Explain how your artifact is a good example of the objective, competency, or standard. Defend your evidence as if you were a lawyer defending the validity of evidence submitted for the trial. TF-IV.B.1 (ISTE Standards) states that Candidates guide teachers as they use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning. I believe I met this standard in my staff development project because the social bookmarking website Delicious improves instructional practice by allowing teachers to find and bookmark up-to-date websites at any location. Teachers can even allow those with mastery of a concept to extend the mastery by locating valid information on the web and creating their own stack of websites for struggling students to use as a study aid. TF-II.C (ISTE Standards) states that Technology Facilitators identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability. This cannot be made any clearer as to how I met this standard. The whole purpose of the staff development was to locate and identify technology resources and bookmark them for future use. Of course, we had to evaluate those sites for accuracy and appropriateness for the desired grade level. Finally, I also met standard TF-I.A.2 (ISTE Standards) which states that I assisted teacher in identifying technology systems, resources, and services to meet specific learning needs. This is also quite obvious because the Delicious website locates resources to use when teaching specific topics, which would qualify as specific learning needs. These stacks that one creates on Delicious can be differentiated to meet varied learning needs within the classroom, as well. Discuss how you might change the content, strategy, or design of the artifact. If you see no need for change, elaborate on the artifact is a good exemplar for the competency or standard. Upon reflection of my project for EDTC6037, there is not much that I would change in the content, strategy, or design of the staff development. I would have allowed for more time within the staff development, in order for teachers to search for more websites to bookmark. I would have also encouraged teachers to access websites already bookmarked on their laptops and save them to their new Delicious account. One thing I would have done differently is to add a section on how to allow students to use Delicious. I worry about the safety of internet access for students, but I believe the higher level students could access the internet responsibly to create their own stacks for use in a research project. Delicious was a great asset to our school and I am very glad I was able to introduce such a great social bookmarking website to my colleagues. Discuss how the artifact is representative of future career goals and plans. My future goals and plans are to be an instructional technologist for elementary schools. It was a great experience to be able to lead a workshop at my school and allow teachers to receive renewal credits in technology. I enjoyed working with Stephanie Holmes, a fellow instructional technologist in my class. It was inspirational to be able to put our heads together and create a great staff development for each of our schools. I plan to use this approach in the future as I have now made many contacts within the world of instructional technology in the field of
