St. Johns United Church of Christ, founded by happy and hearty settlers in 1827, is a community of spiritual growth and active Christian witness on German Ridge. Our minister is Rev. Carla Wobschall. Come, learn and serve with us! Our youth explore faith through fund-raising to end hunger, volunteering at our community Vacation Bible School, and leading Easter Sunrise worship. Womens Guild meets monthly for study and mission projects, while Mens Fellowship is a monthly breakfast and service group. Or perhaps, discover your musical gifts in our choir or bell choir. We know you will enjoy the scenic beauty of our church setting. The steepled brick church, built in 1884, overlooks green pastures and wooded valleys, and the new Fellowship Hall hosts church meals and social events, as well as family reunions. St. Johns celebrates our communitys German heritage every year at the German Ridge Jamboree, on the fourth Saturday of July. Come to the Jamboree for fellowship, good food and all-day entertainment with music, games, crafts and our heritage quilt show. We also belong to the Pioneer Larger Parish, five local UCC churches working together to faithfully serve Christ and our community. Our church has a place for you - to worship, grow in spirit, serve and be served. You can make new friends, experience Gods grace and love, and share in the work of His kingdom. At St. Johns, everyone is important.

Trinity United Church of Christ continues its dedication to bringing the living Trinity of our Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit into the lives of this congregation and all its members. This includes ongoing in-depth study and prayer to discern Gods plan for us. Our congregation offers warm fellowship, opportunities for meaningful worship, education for both children and adults to help them on their Christian journey, and ministry to those within our community and the world who are hurting or in need. The members continue our Called to Care ministry to our sick and shut-ins. We are active participants in the Pioneer Larger Parish (PLP), the shared ministry of the United Church of Christ churches in Monroe County. We also actively support the county-wide ministries of the Switzerland of Ohio
Ministerial Association, particularly the MANNA Food Bank and the SOMA Thrift Store. We again will be offering our annual Ice Cream Social to the community. We also celebrate other traditions, such as Harvest Home Sunday, All Saints Sunday, our Lewisville Community Worship Services during Lent and Thanksgiving and our Lewisville Community Vacation Bible School. We continue to strive to fulfill our mission of worshipping God, preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, promoting fellowship and unity within our church and the Church Universal, rendering loving service to all people, and working for justice, righteousness and peace for all. We warmly invite all who are seeking a more intimate relationship with the Trinity to join us on our journey. It truly is an adventure.
The Christian Church is believed to have been organized shortly following the Civil War in 1876. At that time, 190 members were on the rolls. Land was purchased from the Isaac Hill family in January 1890. In December 1937, the building burned to the ground. The pulpit, three chairs, a communion table, a piano and a few books were saved. The building was replaced by a new building in 1940; until that time, the congregation met at Beallsville High School. There have been many improvements to the physical property of the church in recent years, as well as growth in the congregation. The former church parsonage was demolished and provided room for a nice parking lot. The inside of the church building was remodeled, the pews refinished, walls repainted and new carpeting laid. In the 1990s, the church underwent a two-phase construction project. Initially, a 40x40 fellowship hall was constructed. Then, after paying off more than half that loan, additional 40x60 was added, making the completed structure a sizeable 40x100. It is used for youth activities, funeral meals, plays, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School classes, showers, parties and various meetings. There have also been many additions and families added to the church. The Church has emphasized reaching young families and their children. The childrens church program has been functioning for over 20 years. Other programs that have been added are The Dorcas Circle, a womens group; Helping Hands Ministry, helping people with physical needs; Home Services, video-taped morning services and communion delivered to those unable to attend; Dinner Theater, drama on the Fellowship Hall stage; and Youth Worship. The Christs Kids Zone takes place during the Adult Morning Worship. This is designed for all ages, nursery through sixth grade. This way the children can get a lesson on their own level and the adults can listen during the message. We want all ages to attend, but especially young families with children. We have activities for all ages. We have classes during the Sunday School Hour for all ages, nursery through senior Saints! All are welcome and invited to come share with us! The present minister is Wayne Clark, who has held the post for the past 22 years.
