1. Cisco IP Telephony - Unified Communications

2. Hardware, software and licenses specification

2.1. Licensing using Cisco Unified Work Space License

Sizing the number of users: UCSS (Unified Communications Software Subscription) is the number of software licenses based on number of users. To size the right number of users for Cisco UCM (Unified Communications Manager) or UWL (Unified Workspace Licensing) that will require licenses to use telephony services, simply add up the number of users plus the number of devices in public spaces. Sample 1: A customer has 1,000 employees working in the office and other 200 remote employees. They all have voicemail and occasionally working in the office. In addition, the customer will have 150 devices in public spaces such as hallways, reception, kitchen, fax and meeting room. In this case, the customer will need to purchase UCSS for 1,000 office employees + 200 remote employees + 150 devices in public spaces = 1350 users. Sample 2: A customer has 500 employees working in office others 100 employees are executives with IP phones and softphones, working from home. In addition, this customer has 80 devices in public spaces. In this case the customer will purchase UCSS for 500 employees + 80 devices in public spaces = 580 users. A hotel with 300 employees, 100 of these employees will not have IP phones. This hotel has 500 rooms, each with two phones (an IP phone and a wireless analog phone). In addition, the hotel has 200 phones in public places like meeting rooms, reception and FAX. In this case the customer will need to purchase UCSS to 200 employees who will use the telephony services + 500 users (each room is considered one user, not two!) + 200 devices in public spaces = 900 users.

2.4. Using Cisco Dynamic Configuration Tool / Choosing the Product Number and getting the Price List The following information will only illustrate how to quantify the licenses for Cisco UC services. In practice, this information will vary in each case, depending on the types of services that will be deployed, project size, number of telephones, user profiles, etc 2.4.1. CUWL Standard Product Number Through a tool called Cisco Dynamic Configuration Tool we can find the PNs (Product Numbers) of all Cisco products, check the price list of each device and size them. Hereafter, we will look for some PNs for CUWL, select the right packets, and show how to size item by item of these packages. On our first sample we will make the design of one CUWL Standard package for an environment with 500 users. In this package all 500 users will have access to services as: Presence, Voice-mail, and Mobility, install applications on their desktops as Jabber, Personal Communicator, IP Communicator. We will select 25 licenses for devices in public spaces and 25 licenses for analog devices. Licenses to a cluster with 3 CallManager 8.6 for MCS-7935 servers. One license to EMI for MCS-7925 server. Two Unity Connection servers for MCS-7935 with a license for Speech Connection. The presence service selected will be the Cisco Presence and will be defined how many licenses will be used for applications as IP Communicator, Personal Communicator, Jabber. The sum of these values should be equal to the total users defined at the beginning. In this case, 500 users. In the end, it generates a list of all products and price list.
