My goal for this project was two-fold.

The first was to alleviate attention from African warlords and dictators and show that often there is no change even when those people do get overthrown. My second goal was to show the effects of malaria and stress the importance of eradicating malaria in Africa. Out of the continents throughout the world, Africa has by far the lowest average quality of life. The two causes that I found were most important to emphasize concerning African well-being were African warlords and dictators and the struggle with malaria. Due to the recent release of Invisible Childrens video KONY 2012, I thought Joseph Kony to be a good example of a warlord. Although the conditions and atrocities might be extreme, I wanted to focus on the number killed. This number pales in comparison to that of malaria. My other goal concerning the dictators was that even when power changes hands, it often is to just as evil and disagreeable a person. McKinsey, a renowned consulting firm, did a study and determined that Africa could eradicate malaria with eleven billion dollars over a five-year period. Considering five billion dollars would be spent over the five years treating malaria in Africa, this would be only six billion dollars more. Also in the study it was determined that Africas annual GDP would increase by twenty billion dollars. With this influx, it is illogical not to solve this problem. Hopefully, with less disease and more money, Africa would be able to improve the quality of life. This may be a different approach to changing the political landscape. In the movie, I chose the music because it felt very uncovering and insightful. I thought that worked well when comparing these two areas. I chose the map as a

backdrop because it allowed me to zoom into different countries where individuals had

been leaders. I found my sources to be only somewhat helpful, often having to pull information from many different areas.
