FROM THE PASTORS DESK

Dear Parish Family, Christ is risen! He is truly risen! Alleluia, Alleluia! Easter greetings to all members of our parish family and to all visitors and guests. Welcome! And thank you as we join with all Christians throughout the world on this Resurrection Sunday in which we celebrate the definitive victory of Our Lord Jesus Christ over sin and death! I can think of no greater reflection to offer than that of the Easter sermon given by St. John Chrysostom (327-407), the Patriarch of Constantinople. This beautiful sermon is still proclaimed in the churches of our Orthodox brothers and sisters and speaks to all of us. May the joy and peace of Easter burn in our hearts throughout the year. To Christ be glory and power forever and ever. Amen! Peace and all good Fr. Chuck Easter Sermon of St. John Chrysostom as prepared by Andr Lavergne Are there any who are devout lovers of God? Let them enjoy this beautiful bright festival! Are there any who are grateful servants? Let them rejoice and enter into the joy of their Lord! Are there any weary from fasting? Let them now receive their due! If any have toiled from the first hour, let them receive their reward. If any have come after the third hour, let them with gratitude join in the feast! Those who arrived after the sixth hour, let them not doubt; for they shall not be short-changed. Those who have tarried until the ninth hour, let them not hesitate; but let them come too. And those who arrived only at the eleventh hour, let them not be afraid by reason of their delay. For the Lord is gracious and receives the last even as the first. The Lord gives rest to those who come at the eleventh hour, even as to those who toiled from the beginning. To one and all the Lord gives generously. The Lord accepts the offering of every work. The Lord honors every deed and commends their intention. Let us all enter into the joy of the Lord! First and last alike, receive your reward. Rich and poor, rejoice together! Conscientious and lazy, celebrate the day! You who have kept the fast, and you who have not, rejoice, this day, for the table is bountifully spread! Feast royally, for the calf is fatted. Let no one go away hungry. Partake, all, of the banquet of faith. Enjoy the bounty of the Lord's goodness!

2 | MISSION SAN LUIS REY PARISH, Oceanside, California April 8, 2012

Let no one grieve being poor, for the universal reign has been revealed. Let no one lament persistent failings, for forgiveness has risen from the grave. Let no one fear death, for the death of our Savior has set us free. The Lord has destroyed death by enduring it. The Lord vanquished hell when he descended into it. The Lord put hell in turmoil even as it tasted of his flesh. Isaiah foretold this when he said, "You, O Hell, were placed in turmoil when he encountering you below." Hell was in turmoil having been eclipsed. Hell was in turmoil having been mocked. Hell was in turmoil having been destroyed. Hell was in turmoil having been abolished. Hell was in turmoil having been made captive. Hell grasped a corpse, and met God. Hell seized earth, and encountered heaven. Hell took what it saw, and was overcome by what it could not see. O death, where is your sting? O hell, where is your victory? Christ is risen, and you are cast down! Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen! Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice! Christ is risen, and life is set free! Christ is risen, and the tomb is emptied of its dead. For Christ, having risen from the dead, is become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep. To Christ be glory and power forever and ever. Amen!

Welcome We Invite You to Serve

Your light must shine before all so that they may see goodness in your acts (Matt 5:16). Jesus invites us to commit ourselves to be good stewards of the gifts entrusted to us, to share our time, our talents and our treasure as an outward sign of the love and gratitude we have for him. Giving of our time and talent mainly involves a change of attitude about giving. Its important to think in terms of giving in gratitude to God, of considering how blessed we are, of using our gifts and talents for the good of others. In the area of time and talent, many parishioners already commit a certain number of hours each week to prayer, and to sharing their time and talents for the benefit of all. How much time have you spent this week in prayer for others and for the work of the Church? Have you ever thought about how many hours you spend doing things for yourself versus how many you spend doing things for others? Everyone must give according to what he has inwardly decided; not sadly, not grudgingly, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor 9:7). Your parish needs you! Welcome Sunday is May 20. Please join us to welcome and recognize all our new parishioners. Consider joining on Welcome Sunday one of the many ministries we have to offer and become an active member of our parish family life. Invite someone new to serve with you! Stay tune for more information.

Christmas in July Jewelry Boutique

Each year, the resale jewelry boutique attracts crowds of shoppers who support our parish school through their purchases during the OMMS Christmas in July fundraiser. As the boutique chairwoman for the 5th year, I can tell you that the school is very grateful to the generous ladies who have donated jewelry in past years. Once again, we are collecting AND WE DO NEED YOUR HELP. If you have jewelry that you never wear, please consider donating it to help the school raise funds. We accept costume jewelry of any era, gold or silver jewelry, broken chains and watches, and old rosaries. Without your generosity ladies, there would be no boutique. We rely entirely on parishioners for donations. THE NEED HAS NEVER BEEN GREATER. If you have a large collection or valuable pieces to donate, I am happy to meet with you personally. You may also drop off jewelry in the OMMS office on week days. I can be reached at the number below or contacted through email at ChristmasinJuly1@yahoo.com. SLOW DOWN
How can I hear what God is saying to me? We try to listen more closely to the voice of God within us. One of the ways for me to hear Gods voice is by noticing what is going on in my life, Gods words through reading the Bible, and listening attentively to other peoples stories. God works powerfully through people helping each other to make connections between everyday life and faith. There is often so little time to notice what is happening to us. A Small Christian Community can be the means of becoming aware of Gods help within our lives. A Small Christian Community is a group of 8 to 12 adults, or families, who come together, usually in each others homes, weekly or every other week to share something of their stories with one another. They also dig deeper into the Sunday Scriptures to discover Gods story. They are much like the early church. The Mission San Luis Rey Core Team invites you to consider joining an SCC. All cultures are welcomed to join or start a group (8 to 12 people). Find out more from Eileen Costa (SCC Coordinator), at (760) 231-9930; or Bartolo Mendez at (760) 945-3701; or Tavale Tavale at (760) 295-4088. Be a part of bringing the presence of Christs love to your Family and Mission San Luis Reys Parish Family.

BIENVENIDO Te Invitamos a Servir
