Text Book: Bedford, Fowler: Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics & Dynamics Study Pack, 5/E Additional References: Any text on statics and/or probability can serve as a reference. There are a large number of them available at the Concordia University Library. Website: moodle (via myconcorida portal)

Topics:

Introduction (Chapter 1 and 2) Forces (Chapter 3) System of forces and moments (Chapter 4) Objects in equilibrium (chapter 5) Centroids and centers of mass (chapter 7) Friction (chapter 9) Virtual work and potential energy (chapter 11) Motion of a point (chapter 13) Force, mass and acceleration (chapter 14) Energy and momentum methods (chapter 15 and 16) Planar kinematics of rigid bodies (chapter 17) Planar dynamics of rigid bodies (chapter 18)

CEAB graduate attribute Problem Analysis, i.e. an ability to use appropriate knowledge and skills to identify, formulate, analyze and solve complex engineering problems in order to reach substantiated conclusions. This attribute will be taught in the lectures by solving several sample problems and in the tutorial via specified problems. This attribute will be practiced when students solve their assigned problems. Finally, this attribute will be evaluated in the term tests and the final exam of this course. Tutorial Sessions There will be one hour tutorial per week. During these tutorials, tutors will be giving some problems to students to solve in the class. Tutors will be helping the students to solve these problems. Homework Assignments Several homework assignments will be given throughout the semester. Midterm Exams (see course web-page for dates) Three midterms will be given during the semester. The midterms are worth 14% each. They will be held in the lecture time in the regular class room. Final Exam The final exam is worth 60% of the total grade and covers all the material of the course. The location and date of the final exam will be announced later. Grading Scheme Term Work: 40%: average of the three midterms Final exam: 60% General Guidelines and Policies Exams will be closed book/closed notes. The final exam will be comprehensive and covers all the material. No make-up tests will be given. Any missed test (for valid reasons) can be replaced by an oral exam except the final exam. Honor Code All Concordia University students must abide by the University's code of conduct which can be found in section 16.3.14 of Concordia University Undergraduate Calendar
