As a team, you will teach the class concepts of Science. You will go through the inquiry process by researching ideas, interacting (speaking and listening).

ROLE of EACH TEAM MEMBER:

Reporter: I share our work and ideas with the class. I make sure our oral presentations are organized and effective. I participate and cooperate in all activities.

The INQUIRY PROCESS looks like this:

Plan 1.) What is the question asking? What do we need to find out? 2.) What resources will we use? What kind of framework will we use to collect data?

Research 3.) Find definitions. 4.) Note-take: extract information using dot points and key words. 5.) Explain examples

Process Information 6.) Analyze the gathered data. 7.) Group data together based on criteria. 8.) What is relevant and what helps us answer the question? 9.) What do we still need to find out?

Presentation 10.) Plan the presentation of our report: select from Powerpoint, presentations, movies, posters, picture books, reports, role-play, songs. What is the best way to present our findings? 11.) Draft, edit, revise and publish the report. 12.) Acknowledge references. 13.) Present the report to the class.

Evaluation 14.) What was my share of the work? Why? 15.) What group skills did I use? What skills do I need to improve? 16.) Did our presentation answer the question? 17.) What understandings have I gained through this process?

Catastrophic Events 1.) Describe causes of catastrophic events (such as earthquakes, typhoons and tsunamis) 2.) Explain the movements under the earth and the faulting and folding processes. 3.) Report on the effect these events have on peoples lives. 4.) What measures can be taken by people to lessen the negative effects. Science in Practice 1.) Describe ways in which information is gathered about the earth and its resources, such as environmental monitoring and the use of weather balloons and satellites. 2.) What do different scientists do? 3.) Explain the role of the Department of Meteorology. Seasons 1.) Describe the seasons and how they occur on earth. 2.) Describe the effects seasons have on the environment. 3.) Describe the effects seasons have on peoples lives.
