Polis Eagle and Summit County Wilderness Preservation Act. We urge that you work in the U.S. Senate to pass a similar bill. As business owners, we recognize the value of protecting the public lands that surround our communities. Communities like ours continue to thrive because of proximity to protected wilderness, which draws people to move here or visit in ever greater numbers. Our protected landscapes help fuel jobs in our region, and the benefits that flow from these lands, either directly or indirectly, are now among the dominant economic drivers in our community. Wilderness ensures healthy big game herds for our hunting industry and unparalleled vistas for our skiing industry, attracts cross country skiers and hikers in winter and summer, and keeps our gold medal trout streams at the top of anglers minds, attracting visitors from all over the nation and world. Wilderness is the best protection of our headwaters, wildlife habitats and scenic vistas. It preserves Western Colorados unique assets. Wilderness conserves our natural capital, keeping Western Colorado a place where people want to live, businesses want to grow, and everyone wants to vacation. Protection of the lands in the Eagle and Summit County Preservation Act, as well as other Hidden Gems lands such as Lower Piney, Elliot Ridge, Homestake, and Crazy Horse will not only maintain Colorados scenic and natural treasures, but also will help strengthen our economies, provide jobs that keep and bring people into our communities, and help promote prosperity in our region.
