I. Standards: New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics: The Number System 7.NS Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers. 1. Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers d. Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract rational numbers. 2. Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division and of fractions to multiply and divide rational numbers. c. Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide rational numbers. Technology Standards: 1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness 2. Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETSS. a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. d. Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching. 3. Model Digital Age Work and Learning Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.

a. Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations. c. Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats II. Lesson Objective(s): 1. Students should understand the definition of an integer. c. A positive number, a negative number, or zero but not a fraction or decimal. 2. Students should know how to distinguish the difference between a positive and negative integer. 3. Students should be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive and negative integers. III. Introduce the Learning Activity: 1. First, the teacher will have the students find the definition of an integer using: http://www.amathsdictionaryforkids.com/dictionary.html located on the teachers website. 2. Next, the teacher will ask students to recall how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive integers using examples previously written on the board. 3. Then, the teacher will introduce the idea of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing both positive and negative whole numbers. 4. Following that, the teacher will pass out an informational sheet on computation with integers. 5. Finally, the teacher will ask the students to complete the jeopardy activity individually by googling math play integer jeopardy games. (http://www.math-play.com/IntegersJeopardy/Integers-Jeopardy.html) c. Complete activity d. Print Certificate e. Upload Grade to Edmodo IV. Provide Information: 1. Communication is very important in this lesson. It is important for students to learn the new information in a way they understand. This would be completed using a familiar idea (Computation with positive numbers) to introduce an unfamiliar idea (Computation with positive and negative numbers). 2. The teacher must provide a formal definition and detailed informational sheet about the topic to help incorporate visual learning. 3. Before allowing the students to move to the computers, the teacher must provide explicit directions about the graded assignment. 4. While the students work on the computer, it is important for the teacher to either be modeling how to find the information on the internet, or actively walking around the room answering and asking questions.

V. Provide Practice: 1. After handing out the informational sheet students will be given the opportunity to individually practice adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing positive and negative integers by completing the 20 question jeopardy activity online. c. The students will need to answer all 20 questions. d. Print the ending certificate with their score. e. Sign on to Edmodo and send a direct post to the teacher with their final score. VI. Provide Knowledge of Results: 1. During the jeopardy activity, the teacher must walk around the room to check on students to see if they are struggling or excelling. c. The teacher will provide positive verbal feedback to students who understand the material and are completing the activity in a timely manner. d. The teacher will help struggling students by asking where they are confused and trying to get the student back on track with the rest of the class. 2. Once printing out certificate of completion for the game, students will have immediate written feedback from their score and the congratulations at the top of the certificate. 3. After receiving the students grades on Edmodo, the teacher will provide written feedback about their grade using the direct messaging feature. c. The teacher should provide positive feedback for a passing grade. d. For a non passing grade, the teacher should ask the student to meet outside of class and be ready to explain their thinking about the assignment. Maybe also have the chance to redo the assignment. VII. Review the Activity: 1. The students will review the activity with an exit slip providing an example of an integer problem that is not the sum, difference, product, or quotient of two positive whole numbers. VIII. Method of Assessment: 1. The student will use the completed certificate from the jeopardy game to post their final score on Edmodo. c. The certificate is graded on a 0-20 scale. i. 0/20 is the lowest with no answer in the game correct. ii. 12/20 is a passing score with a 65%. iii. 20/20 is the highest score with every answer correct.
