We may not see the effects of what we do, but may well leave a legacy for our children (or theirs) to deal with. Just as we owe a duty of care to each other in terms of health and safety, we each have a duty of care to protect the environment. Similarly, employers have a duty of care to reduce the impact of their business on the environment. Most people are probably familiar with Reuse, Rethink, Recycle campaigns and have may have heard of carbon-footprints, but what about cradle to-grave responsibilities? So, what are they?, what effects do they have?, how do companies achieve their duty of care, fully discharge their responsibilities or meet/exceed the targets imposed upon them by governments or legislation?

In order to understand where we can make improvements, develop plans to reduce our impact, or, more importantly, make them happen, we need to train staff at all levels to appreciate that there is a problem and take steps to reduce the possible waste, of energy, resource and effectively money and in so doing, do our bit to help protect the environment. BSS believe that a better educated workforce is a more productive one and, when coupled with good management systems, will benefit any employer (and our environment) enormously. How do we deliver this service? Training British Safety Services, BSS, have now identified a systematic programme of training that will both cover the entire workforce from Managing Director to the newest of workers and allow progression for staff who wish to move up the ladder of competence at a speed of their choosing.
