EXHIBIT B-9 GLASS AND GLAZING

1.0

Tempered glass shall be either plate glass or sheet glass which has been heatstrengthened by manufacturer's standard process after cutting to final size, to achieve a flexural strength of four times normal glass strength. Glass shall be clear, Class 1, 6 mm (1/4 in.). Tempered glass shall conform to the requirements of ANSI Standard 97.1, Safety Glazing Material Used in Buildings, Performance Specifications and Methods of Tests.

1.1

Wire glass shall be 6 mm (1/4 in.) clear, wired and polished both faces, welded diamond. Wire glass for fire-rated doors shall conform to NFPA No. 30 and shall be a type investigated and approved by a nationally recognized testing agency. Proof of such conformance and approval shall be in the form of a label attached to the glass attesting that identical glass has successfully passed fire tests for door assemblies as specified in ASTM E 152, Fire Tests of Door Assemblies. Noise-reducing glass shall be of two clear sheets of either plate glass, sheet glass, or one of each, permanently laminated together with a special 1.6-mm (0.045-in.) resilient clear plasticized sheet of polyvinyl butyral, which was produced specifically for laminating glass. Glass shall have STC rating of 40, 3-cm (1/2-in.) nominal thickness when tested in accordance with ASTM E 90, Practice for Laboratory Measurement of Airborne Sound Transmission Loss of Building Partitions.

1.4

The sizes to provide the required edge clearances shall be determined by measuring the actual opening to receive the glass. Sheet glass shall be cut and installed with the visible lines of waves running with the horizontal dimensions. Watertight and airtight installation of each piece of glass is required. Each installation must withstand normal temperature changes, wind loading, and impact loading for operating sash and doors without failure of any kind including loss or breakage of glass, failure of sealants or gaskets to remain watertight and airtight, deterioration of glazing materials, and other defects in the work. Labels shall be left in place until the installation is approved. Movable items shall be securely fixed or in a closed and locked position until glazing compound has thoroughly set.

1.5

Items so be glazed may be shop-or field-glazed, using glass of the quality and thickness specified. Beads or stops which are furnished with the items to be glazed shall be used to secure the glass in place. Insulating units shall not have edges or corners ground, nipped, cut, or fitted after leaving the factory, and shall not be subjected to springing, forcing, or twisting during setting, and shall be

handled so as not to strike setting frames or other objects. Wire glass for fire doors shall be installed in accordance with the installation requirements of NFPA No. 80. 1.6 Glazing gaskets shall be molded or extruded neoprene gaskets of the profile or hardness required for watertight construction in accordance with ASTM C 542, Lock-Strip Gasket or ASTM D 2000, Rubber Products in Automotive Applications, Classification System for Extruded, flexible PVC gaskets of the profile and hardness required, complying with ASTM D 2287, No rigid Vinyl Chloride, Polymer and Coploymer Moulding and Extrusion Compounds, Specification for. Glazing accessories shall be as required to supplement the accessories provided with the items to be glazed and to provide a complete installation. All glass and accessories shall be delivered to the project site with the manufacturer's brand and name clearly marked thereon. Materials shall be stored in undamaged condition and shall be stored at the jobsite in an enclosed area at the temperature and in the manner recommended by the manufacturers of the materials furnished. Manufacturer's recommended allowance for expansion and contraction of glass shall be complied with. All materials shall be installed in accordance with the approved recommendations of the manufacturer and the Manual of the Flat Glass Jobber's Association. The sizes to provide the required edge clearances shall be determined by measuring the actual opening to receive the glass. Protective coatings in the glazing rabbets of aluminium items shall be removed completely with a methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) or similar solvent material that will not etch or mar the finish. Rabbets and beads of factory-primed metal units shall be thoroughly cleaned but shall require no priming prior to glazing. Unless otherwise required or recommended by the sash manufacturer, a layer of the specified glazing compound shall be placed in the rabbet of the sash. The glass shall be pressed into the bed of the glazing compound and shall rest on plastic shims or separators not less than 3-mm (1/8-in.) thick, installed in accordance with accepted glazing procedure so that glass will not rest on nor touch any aluminium member. Beads furnished with the unit shall be attached with the applicable length of countersunk flat-head nonmagnetic corrosion-resisting (stainless) steel screws set approximately 12.7 cm (5 in.) on centres. A positive seal shall be provided between the glass and the metal on both sides of the glass. Excess glazing compound on both sides shall be removed. On the exterior side, the glazing compound shall be raked out to not less than 3 mm (1/8 in.) in depth, unless otherwise indicated. The grooves shall be filled with silicone sealant. Compound shall be gun-applied with a nozzle of proper size to fit the width of joint indicated and shall be forced into the grooves with sufficient pressure to expel air and fill the groove solidly. Compound shall be uniformly smooth and free of wrinkles and shall be left sufficiently convex to result in a flush joint when dry.

Glass panes in steel frames, unless secured with screw-on or snap-in beads furnished with the unit, shall be secured with not less than eight applicable glazing or wire springs and shall be neatly face-puttied with the glazing compound specified hereinbefore. The glass shall be firmly seated into the previously bedded and back-bedded rabbet and shall be secured by glazing angles, equally spaced and fastened to the metal members with applicable metal screws. The rabbet shall then be filled with glazing compound, bevelled back against the metal members, and cut to a neat, trim line. Beads, other than snap-in types, shall be attached with applicable length countersunk flat-head screws set approximately 12.7 cm (5. in.) on centres. A positive seal shall be provided between the glass and the metal on both sides of the glass. Glass surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned, with labels, paint spots, putty, and other defacements removed and shall be clean at the time the work is accepted. Cracked, broken, and imperfect glass or plastic glazing material shall be replaced by the Contractor at no additional cost to the Purchaser. Mirrors shall be manufactured of polished plate glass. The silvered surface shall be protected by electro-copper backing and protective coating.
